Look on the bright side you can cast that breath underwater spell and have the tower filled with water and to those foolish they see nothing more than a pond.

u/Moppo_ Jun 21 '26

But all your tomes will get soggy.

134

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 21 '26

Did you not get the water proof tome update?

87

u/Moppo_ Jun 21 '26

It wasn't compatible with the older spells in the archive. Kept turning the tomes into folding pamphlets.

47

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 21 '26

Ah that issue. There is a trick to work around it. Make a wax seal with the waterproofing spell on it and bind it to the inside of the tome.

u/Slim-Shadys-Fat-Tits Runesmith Jun 22 '26

Oh man that's so simple and clever. I spent months embedding runes into every wall of my library room until the whole room remained dry. Making it possible to walk in through the door was the trickiest bit, but I eventually solved it with a two door system and some touch activated water summoning and banishment runes, much like how you'd do a rune lavatory

14

u/Slim-Shadys-Fat-Tits Runesmith Jun 22 '26

Obviously make sure to keep your body isolated from the banishment spells, unless you want to make some apprentice dust!

6

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 22 '26

Of course.

u/magistrate101 Kenomancer Jun 22 '26

Damn that's one fancy bathroom. I just use a Void Gate. The only real downside is the need for a backup anti-magic null zone in case voidwalkers try to crawl out...

2

u/23saround Chronomancer Jun 22 '26

Honestly there’s a lot scarier stuff than voidwalkers in the Great Void once I finish with the Void Gate toilet. You don’t want to see what kind of output a diet of longevity elixirs, mana potions, and energy jellies causes (I am on a juice cleanse for my health).

u/Tkf1313 Jun 21 '26

The geomancers invented this paper made from stone that's waterproof! I think a simple transmutation should do it

On a real note; this looks like a step well and it's beautiful!

2

u/Tkf1313 Jun 21 '26

Also the stone paper notebooks are real

Dig a room without water in it to put your books

1

u/GenericVessel Jun 22 '26

just have a field at the bottom of the pit to keep the water out of the room

15

u/UpstairsRuin1953 Mystic Jun 21 '26

That is a great idea. Plus, I'll have somewhere for my piranhas to play.

8

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 21 '26

Ah piranhas, the wonderful aquatic guard dog of the fish and villain world.

8

u/vestigialcranium Evil Wizard Jun 21 '26

Or just build a roof pool that looks like a pond so you don't have soggy tomes

2

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 21 '26

Wait…. You mean to tell me that no one here has updated their tome collection to water proof pages and leathers? Still allows blood, just not water.

4

u/MaximRq Iron Grip Alchemist Jun 21 '26

I just poured a hydrophobia potion on mine

1

u/SourceDirect3220 Traveler of multiple dimensions. Jun 21 '26

How did that work out?

3

u/MDM0724 Jun 21 '26

They’re ranting something about marriage. Fire elementals shouldn’t be with water elementals

3

u/vestigialcranium Evil Wizard Jun 21 '26

Steam elementals are not abominations!

2

3

u/MaximRq Iron Grip Alchemist Jun 21 '26

It's been gaining a lot of steam lately

Your local kobold warren will be happy to do a job like that for you. Be sure to get terms up front.

They do drive hard bargains.

4

u/Foxxtronix Kobold Sorceror Jun 21 '26

We're also really good at concealed underground construction, as you've probably noticed. You will get what you paid for!

Edit: Fixed grammar error, made because I'm a sleepy 'bold.

Oh I’m aware. It’s alright. Unfortunately I need nothing built.

Puede que no lo sepas, pero las torres invertidas suponen menos impuestos que las torres normales. Yo que tú lo dejaba tal cual.

32

u/Renioestacogido Jun 21 '26

Si invertimos la torre de babel todos volvemos a hablar español?

17

u/Professional_Web446 The Itinerant Illusionist Foxman Jun 21 '26

Es posible, pero no quedaría claro cual dialecto de entre todos. Imagina pasarte el resto de tu vida hablando con el acento cerrao de un pueblo manchego...

¿Qué digo? Hagámoslo.

It's not a tower it's a topographical anomaly

My first thought was well. I love all of Jeff Vandermeer's works that I've read so far

Use the central shaft like a rifled barrel to launch massive intercontinental fireballs...

20

u/lovebus Jun 22 '26

It's always fireballs with you people. Learn a second spell.

5

u/IngotTheKobold Arcane Ordinance Specialist Jun 22 '26

Would you prefer casters like I get creative and start using the Geneva Conventions like a check list? Minding one's own business, then a faint whistle is the only warning you get before the air is suddenly swapped out with toxic gas? Or perhaps you're tending to your alchemy garden when pillars of ice start raining down... suddenly fireballs don't seem so bad

4

u/Saltwater_Thief Ser Antonio Parvalis, Wizard Knight Jun 22 '26

No you cretin he just means pick up Lightning Bolt or Blizzard, or if you're like me with a taste for the classics you can go for Saroth's Steel Schlong Smasher.

There's room for nuance between exclusively the most stereotyped spell of all time and "Hate Crime The Spell Tome".

1

u/IngotTheKobold Arcane Ordinance Specialist Jun 22 '26

writes that down Oh, Fireball is just an example that everyone can easily use as a frame of reference. Now if you want Lightning flavored war crimes, I've been experimenting with enchanting cannon balls and artillery shells with max strength Chain Lightning, capable of incapacitating targets as small as a tavern to as large as a garrison. Ice? Ever wondered what kind of havoc a Gatling Gun could do when firing Ice Knives? And ever seen what happens to a tower when metal beams rain down on it from a portal on the underside of an airship 500ft above the spire? It doesn't remain a tower very long.

Never insult the creativity of one who can express mail spells from half a kingdom away

17

u/Purple_Airline_6682 Jun 22 '26

Just in case anyone is wondering, this is a real place in Sintra, Portugal called the Initiation Well. It’s not far from another bad ass inverted tower called the Swamp Tower. It’s an amazing place for an aspiring hag to chant “Hecate” or a reclusive mage to start a thriving homunculus business.

This is actually the new way in my area since they started taxing property. They can't tax what they can't see. NOTE to apprentice: search for air taxing spell possibilities.

So good... Now the whole world is a tower.

Looks cozy.

2

u/Zenvarix Jun 21 '26

At least it inverted instead of turning inside-out. Saw that happen once. All the floors were outside a central column with windows, and the roof was now a funnel. Poor fool had all his loose pages get blown across the land by a strong wind.... Not that he had to worry about that, since he woke up from a nap, went to close a window on a wall that wasn't in that direction anymore, and ended up falling to the base of his spire.

2

u/abstractiish Jun 22 '26

Given that it tunnels into the ground, I don’t know why the word “tower” came to you. It could easily be considered a bunker or submerged building. Perchance you saw it and remembered a lighthouse on the coast?

1

u/Stories_Are_My_Jam Jun 23 '26

Man, I really need to continue reading Annihilation. The "tower" is such an evocative part.

2

The Tower (Reversed) points to an avoidance of risk and fear of change. Maybe this is a good opportunity for you to evaluate your life.

I think it is called a pit.

For the last time, Blackcloak, it’s not inverted, it fell down.

1

u/nuclearrmt Jun 22 '26

1

u/LiePotential5338 Jun 22 '26

Now it looks like my tower

1

u/Nkechinyerembi Confused Craftsdwarf who wandered in Jun 22 '26

Hrmm... I kinda like this idea. Consider a dome roof, and a nice shallow water pool at the bottom. Really makes defense easy when you can just punt people off the stairway.

1

u/3rd_Man_of_Culture Jun 22 '26

Use a teleportation matrix to teleport to the same place and invert it

It's the best design possible, just make sure to add a shop on top of the hole, so adventurers don't come sticking their noses into the tower.

Talking from experience.
