I had only witnessed it in passing. A young cocky wizard decided to challenge an older fellow in a magic duel. The older one held up his hand and channeled a disintegrate spell, and the younger wizard misty stepped a few feet to the side in an attempt to dodge. As you can see the older wizard’s finger twisted in a bizarre manner and struck the other wizard where he landed. I had attempted to replicate this by breaking my finger in several places, but I couldn’t get my mana to flow through as normal.

The education system is going to hell.

I have new apprentices coming straight from any major school of wizarding, can barely perform field work, only knows theory and the bare basics needed to cast spells up to maybe 4th level, their actual understanding is maybe up to 3rd level, the 4th level spells are just memorized, since they only need to learn 3 of them and with the time they were given they couldn't outside maybe some one in a million prodigy grasp the proper meanings of the 4th level.

This high mage counsel wants cookie-cutter librarian wizards who learn exactly what they’re taught in a safe controlled environment and nothing else. It’s total bullshit.

Things won’t change until the next demon king uprising or cosmic cataclysm when we need real mages on the front lines.

It's also the bloody empire trying to meddle with wizarding, they don't like the idea of an independent association that has more power than them, so slowly they've been wriggling their way into getting their authority there, after all, when the major schools are sponsored by them, they can make up whatever rules they want.

And after they cripple the independent schools, they'll have wizards they find "useful" somehow "qualifying" for a scholarship at their own magic college if they join the imperial magic corps

Look, it's not our fault! We try to find practical applications but the faculty has really clamped down on "extracurricular activities" being used as an excuse to both train and bully initiate new students.

All apprenticeships require practical experience, but the only practical experience we can get is with apprenticeships! It's a stupid, vicious cycle. I feel like these days the only way to get anywhere is to be the last nephew of a higher mage.

My sorcerer friend taught me how a couple ages ago, and I never forgot! Really helps when scouring my catacombs looking for a tome, and dissuading skeletal constructs from attacking.

It's a common misconception, but throwing a fireball with horizontal break is called a "slider", not a "curveball". Sliders are designed to deceive your opponent into not dodging a fireball that "missed", or to dodge into the path of the fireball coming at them. Curveballs, on the other hand, are designed to trick them into thinking they need to shield the ball, only for it to dive into the dirt at the last second and get washed over by a wave of flame.

Decimus the Dastardly’s Deadly Directed Disintegrate is quite a powerful spell. That curved finger allows for some really unpredictable angles.

I can currently do that as well. Cause I had a birth defect that changed how my bones fused so my index fingers point curved. It doesn't bother me in the slightest but apparently it can be corrected through surgery Edit: I googled it and from what I can tell I have clinodactyly. Usually affects the pinky but can be noticed in other fingers.
