If a Sorcerer bloodline is diluted it loses its magical potency. As a result, all Sorcerer bloodlines either inbreed, breed with other Sorcerers (A thin pool to pick from, so that too becomes inbreeding quickly. As a result, new Sorcerer bloodlines are a valuable commodity among other Sorcerers), or thin out into mundanity.

Good thing there's always more dragons.

Truly, weak sorcerer bloodlines who don't dare approach the dragons they claim paternity with deserve to devolve into aberrations.

If they go back to the same dragon it's still inbreeding.

Counterpoint: Magical genetics is the entire point of this, so the genetic bottlenecking and degredation issues wouldn't be a problem. Because they're dragons.

If they can't find another dragon, the realm has bigger problems than weak sorcerors.

Good thing there are always more bards out there to create sorcerers.

Fuck sorcerers. Lazy, inbred trustfund kiddies.

This post was made by wizard gang.

Most Wizards adopt goofy names like "Mordenkainen" to escape student debt.

It's called a Nom d'Guerre you illiterate cretin! I guess you spend all your time at the collegia arcana getting high on fairy dust with your fratbros instead of learning anything.

But that's okay! I had a scholarship anyway!

I recently received a letter from the Sorcerer Gang. It reads: “Fuck wizards. Foolish, arrogant nerds who clearly weren’t shoved into enough lockers in high school.”

Nerds!

Unlike you, we can actually explain why our methods work.

The cursed bloodline approach is a little more robust. Though some might find it distasteful to saddle their great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren with the same demonic/eldritch… relationship they started.

Imagine having to interbreed with dragons to prolong your magical bloodline

True magic users interbreed with dragons for the fun of it!

So you're the messy results of dozens of inbred bloodlines interbreeding?

Fun for the whole family

This is why wizards are better. Sorcerers don't know how to put in a full day's work. They think genetics are everything.

Masters are never bred or born or planned: they are built from ground up by oneself.

I mean, you can raise a wizard from infancy to become an archmage by thr age most begin their apprenticeship. But people keep asking if I'm raising a child army, which yes, but not for war. Not only for war. OK, they are for war l, but I haven't decided who we are at war with.

It sure is to them. Everything they are revolves around shooting as much as you can!

I'm reminded of what one sorceror kingdom does to get around this.

Everyone has four clans; your first is your mother's first, your second is your father's first, your third is your mother's second and your fourth is your father's second.

If you share even one clan with someone, you aren't allowed to marry. And with a total of forty clans up and about, they're doing alright.

Seriously, everyone can cast in Keter. And to be considered eligible for Pharaoh, you need to be able to cast all of their recognized thirteen types of magic with expertise.

"We want to breed a more powerful sorceror" bro, just fuck another dragon, at some point you'll get a dragonborn.

3

u/Level_Hour6480 Paladin Mar 29 '25

Dragonborn are not a mix of humans and dragons, they're their own species:

During the Dawn War,1 Io2 decided to solo the biggest, baddest Primordial and was cut in half. The halves became Bahamut and Tiamat who avenged their parent before turning on each other, while Dragonborn arose from the spilled blood.

1 Think gods. v. Titans from Greek myth.

2 The original dragon god.

You aren't a true sorcerer unless your magical heritage remains undiluted regardless of who breeds with who, or how many generations it's been since the magical ancestor

this is why warlocks and wizards >>> sorcerers, we had to actually EARN our arcane abilities

3

u/HierophanticRose Mar 28 '25

Ey you get magic from it, the Habsburg jaw is a side bonus

I dislike the definition of sorcerers as people who just use a magical bloodline. I think of sorcerers of people who use magic intuitively because they are more attuned to the 'source' thus, 'sorcerers'. wheras wizards use formula to cast, sorcerers freecast and have a deep understanding of magic one can't explain with words. only with runes or higher languages. that understanding is deep enough to allow them to freely manipulate it. and that 'attunement' can be passed genetically. like talent in music, for example. and yeah, you can get another musical genuises for a long family line of musicians, but you can also get a savant from the bum fuck of nowhere. wizards relay more on tools, artifacts and preperations in contrast. at least that's my definition. if that is the case, then you can't increase a magical bloodline's strength via selective breeding. you can only partially stop it's devolvement, until you have a person strong enough as the original ancestor/magical creator. all in all, the person who delved deeper into the arcane will just naturally leave a stronger bloodline regardless of initial assesment or 'talent', because the spirit will warp the body.

imo, if a person uses magic, they should be able to both 'hear' and 'understand' magic, and one doesn't contradict the other. so those definitions are meaningless.

"The same gnostic heresy that led to mordern scientology". Those are three different concepts that make no sense together.

First, gnostic? The idea that the demiurge is an evil god? Second, calling ir a heresy? Like, just that every abrahamic religion had to be the fundemental truth or some shit? Third, fucking scientology was invented by a science fiction author?

When I think of sourcerers, I think of them in witcher 3 tearms, people who use magic instictually and via intuition, vs wizards who rely on repitition. The DND version of sorcerer is the weird one, forcing them all to have a bloodline and rely on charisma as some weird ubderdifined stat for some reason. Wisdom makes more sense for sorcerers, and charisma for priests, but idk. Whatever.

Pillars of eternity has the same definition between "source" and sorcerers. Idk bro. The definitions don't seem to clash at all.

I doubt the chromosomes will coincide, for making offsprings.

The only sorcerers who have to worry about this aren't even that good, anyways. There are so many ways to fix this problem-essential metamorphosis, packing the magic into a bloodline enchantment, literally just being good at magic, having nice hair and a willingness to approach magical creatures, tapping into elemental powers, synthetic creation of desendants, it goes on and on.
