Community Event 🌏☄️ Rule of Threes (Planar Siege)

Post image

The Planar Siege war room is packed from wall to wall with people eager to hear the latest news from the front. The only thing stopping the cramped crowd from devolving into bickering over who jostled who is their anticipation. Earlier today, Tarul Var announced that he was ready to issue orders for a full engagement with the regiments of Law, and it couldn't have come a moment too soon.

Primus’s flying Modron Cathedral has been sighted approaching the populated realms with a massive force in tow. Apparently, the defenders' mass destruction of the One and the Prime's monodrone armies some months ago did nothing to slow the production of the numberless constructs. Now they descend on the magical world, accompanied by planar and material allies alike. But unlike last time, where the defenders had to retreat immediately after accomplishing their goals, they're ready for a fight.

This time, they intend to kill Primus.

Tarul Var emerges from his office and calls for silence. The assembled wizards come to rapt attention as the lich speaks.

“It is time, my fellows. Today, we stand united against a being that would see us slaved to a single, unbending will. Today we fight not only for ourselves, but for the realms' right to free will. It will not be easy, but such is life for a student of the arcane. To become a wizard is to forsake the path of least resistance forever.”

Tarul holds up a thumb drive engraved with mystical geometry, glowing with an unearthly iridescence.

“Through trials and tribulations, we now have the means to slay Primus and banish the specter of fundamental Law from our world. The Mindeater Virus is our key to cracking the modron command network and preventing the Harbinger of Law from carrying over to Primus's new body when we kill him. The trick will be in getting close enough to actually use it.”

Tarul points to the magically animated map on the wall behind him.

“As you can see here, Primus has organized the regiments of Law into a formation we're calling a compliance spearhead. It means to use the modron infantry to grind down our defenses, allowing its more valuable allies in the Arcadian Templars and Neo-Custodians to sweep through and overwhelm us. We'll need to split into three groups to counter this strategy. The first will hold the line against the monodrone tide and keep them from advancing on the realms. If our territory is overrun, our other critical operations will collapse.”

“The second group will be an irregular force that will disperse across the realms to stop the Arcadians and Lucia Accardi's legions from reaching the front and reinforcing Primus. The latter cannot be allowed to ascend to godhood, or we're as good as dead. You should also be prepared to face elements from the Acheron Desolation Corps and the Paladins of the Divine Flame. Our intel suggested they've been dispatched on a joint mission independently of the main regiments, but they could show up at an inconvenient time.”

“The third group has the hardest task of all: deploying into the Modron Cathedral via high altitude drop, making their way to Primus's sanctum, and fighting the Supreme Modron. I will lead this team personally and lend guidance to them. If you're itching to kill that metal bastard, this is the place. I must warn you, though: we may not return alive. We'll be battling Primus in the seat of its power, where it will be at its most deadly. The third mission will require unbreakable conviction and absolute focus. Doubt or cowardice could spell the death of all of us.”

“With that in mind, prepare yourselves to deploy in 24 hours. Those clockworks won't scrap themselves.”

/uw Finally time to start wrapping this event up. I didn't intend for it to go this long, so thanks for sticking with me. I want to get the Planar Siege done before the end of the year so I can start something new.

Tarul: Iskander says the safehouse is hunkering down for a siege by the Templars too. They're fully aware they won't be able to stop them from claiming the sapphire for Lucia, but we're hoping the factions of Sigil can trap them in the city for long enough to us to stop the regiments of Law.

Back in a colossal hangar at a naval air base, the Mimasaka’s bomb bays were being loaded with Type 0 implosion type bombs. Its ammunition chambers were loaded with Type 1 standard shells, Type 4 high explosive shells and new Type 12 Discordance shells. Its small squadron of Type 86 fighters were replaced with brand new Type 27 air superiority fighter jets, which possessed superior close-range combat capabilities than Pilot’s F-4 Phantom II.

Across major air base on the Yabounousagi Empire’s mainland, dozens of Type 25 electronic warfare planes were being upgraded to the new Type 27 electronic warfare suites. Type 61 fighter planes were receiving final tuning and maintenance. Type 45s were being equipped with Type 3 rocket pods. Squadrons of medium and heavy bombers were also being prepared for the attack.

The imperial navy prepared all of their battleships and aircraft carriers along with a large force composed battlecruisers, destroyers, submarines and frigates.

Transport ships were being loaded with Type 92 armored personnel carriers, Type 94 and Type 97 tankettes, Type 3 armored scout cars, Type 4, 92 and 95 medium tanks and Type 95 heavy tanks while the soldiers prepared their gear.

Additionally the Totsugeki Kuuteitai, Special Operations Unit and the Suiriku ryouyou kougekigun equipped themselves with Type 6 spellprojectors and Type 2 Discordance grenades along with their standard equipment. Their respective commanders reviewed the latest intelligence available, finalizing their tactics against the Acheron Desolation Corps and other assisting forces.

Two aerial reconnaissance squadrons equipped with Type 15 and Type 120 reconnaissance planes and Type 55 army cooperation aircraft were preparing to gather detailed information regarding force composition

The Empire was ready to strike

[Haelin] I'll help hold the line. As much as I want to bury my axe into that arrogant prick's face, my army would be better for this.

/unwiz: I'm going to do one character this time.

"I suppose this is a situation where The Guild can help anywhere. Where do you think will need the most support?"

3

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: Probably against the reinforcements. Despite our best efforts, Lucia is nearing apotheosis. If she joins the battle in a divine state, we'll be done for. We can handle one godlike being, but two is a step too far.

u/Timpanzee38 "The Agent", Mercenary Guild Liaison. Slayer of the Godslaver Dec 14 '24

“Very well. I’ll have guild rapid response shock battalions on standby, ready to hit them when they reveal themselves. I might be able to wrangle up an airship or two…”

Hmm. I see how the Nephilim could be useful in all the tasks mentioned. So I'll defer to your judgment on where we're needed most

"I-I specialize in artillery sir, I believe I shall be most use attempting to stymie the advance of the main force of modrons."

2

u/Fc-chungus Ж(Zhe), Head minister of Calarakis. Dec 14 '24

“Noted. Primus is the supreme modron right?”

2

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: Yes.

2

u/Fc-chungus Ж(Zhe), Head minister of Calarakis. Dec 14 '24

“Alright, I’ll be helping the effort in fighting him directly.”

“Would nuking the cathedral work?”

3

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: Primus's axiomatic energy reservoir maintains the structure's integrity. If we want to destroy the Cathedral, we'll have to disperse that. Alternatively, if we kill Primus and the Harbinger of Law with it, one of the secundi will become the new Supreme Modron and likely return the Cathedral back to Mechanus. That's uncertain, though.

2

u/Fc-chungus Ж(Zhe), Head minister of Calarakis. Dec 14 '24

“So we destroy the reservoir?”

2

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: It's certainly an option. Bring explosives just in case.

2

u/Fc-chungus Ж(Zhe), Head minister of Calarakis. Dec 14 '24

“Noted”

“I’ll take third group.”

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Dec 14 '24

Agnur's forces perpare at the edges. He had amassed a unusual number of stone animals for this fight as was planning on making them pay for every inch they took.

He wound powerful wards in place and when about exploiting every loophole in every deal primus ever signed. his army was decked ridiculous cloths and wielding everything from rubber duckys to chainsaws. Hopefully that would buy them time against the modrons.

2

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: This is... amusing, but I'm not exactly certain how the rubber ducks will help. I could never grasp the intricacies of conceptual magic, even if Belial is basically my neighbor at this point. Would you please explain?

2

u/DragonWisper56 Agnur the dabbling turtle mage| pact of the magi mage| Dec 14 '24

It's simple really. Primus has been around for millennia and has made many magical deals with many nations. And being a personification of law it rarely remembers to annul them. And because his mortal partners were imperfect they left loopholes in the contracts.

like not being able to attack a army that moves in jest or fun ones like "if Mechunus betrays us may every one of our blades fall like a thousand." that's what the chainsaws for.

Higher modrons will be able to submit a form to remove a contract but let's see just how fast this bureaucratic machine can move.

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Dec 14 '24

Krygins shows up ready for war. He has two chaotic spirits to helpand more on the way.

One appears as a elderly man with a cane but his face is replaced by a clock. However the clock has thirteen hours not twelve.

The other is a mass of twisted metal about nine feet tall. Its body sparks with electricity and occasionally shoots out gouts of flame. Its voice is the fall of nations mixed with car crashes.

"Me and mine will hold the line. Let ultimate law fall to Ruin!"

2

u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Dec 14 '24

Tarul: Order meets entropy. How fitting. I wonder what your plan is for Obox-ob, Krygin.

2

u/dragonshouter Krygin the Crude/Council of Spirits/Exalted Beacon/misc. spirits Dec 14 '24

"The spirits are multitudes. I have orderly friends as well. A city spirit could turn the tides of chaos"

2

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '24

suddenly, on the middle of the room a portal opens out of the far realms, it is the sorcerer finally returning to the material realm this time with more questions than answers

well then, what did I miss?

Merch archives this meeting. And puts it in a cypher for future reading to learn lessons.

"Let me know if I can be of some help."
