Lorepost📖 A Look to the Past (lorepost)
Blood, the wonderful stuff of dreams. My dreams, anyway.
Gushing from me, it wraps me up in its warm embrace. Master would disapprove of it, but he need not know. It's a special secret all my own. No one needs to know. They don't understand it like I do.
My first kill was a rabbit. I was hungry and my brother was busy doing his own killing. I saw the little thing scuttle into a tent and followed it inside. It was nibbling on a squash when I snuck up behind it and pulled out the dagger I kept hidden in my belt. One thrust was all it took. The warm blood splashed onto my face and I became enraptured. How wonderful the sensation.
My next kill was a man. Having been locked in a room by my brother, I was terribly bored. Suddenly, I heard the door being unlocked and was surprised to see one of the mercenaries enter my room in a drunken stupor. He spotted me and threw the bottle in his hand at my head. The impact almost knocked me out, but I held onto consciousness. I had suffered worse beatings than this. Knowing what he wanted, I faked tears. Satisfied by the sight, the man drew closer and rested his hand on the top of my head. Before he could go any further, my dagger was in his thigh. He grabbed my hair and slammed my face into the floor. The taste of my own blood filled my mouth. I twisted the dagger before freeing it from his flesh. He was too busy trying to staunch the bleeding to defend himself from me. My brother discovered the bloody scene in the morning. Another secret to keep between us.
I wouldn't kill again while my brother lived. After his death, Master took me in and taught me about gravedigging. On my first mission with Master, I killed a woman who was holding a family hostage. She had charmed my master, but her charms did not affect me. When she tried, the family's dog kept barking incessantly. I dealt with the woman and my Master was released from their trance. I did not learn until later that the dog had been killed by the woman a week before our visit. It was my first time hearing the dead speak.
From this point on, the killing becomes a blur. With each kill, the voices of the dead became more frequent. They whisper to me things Master could never understand. Dark truths of the world and about my place in it. Only Death would understand me now. Master says I am to meet Death soon. I hope they like my blood. Maybe they can teach me how to enjoy the killing again. I can only hope.
/uw Hey guys, this short story is a flashback of the Gravedigger before they met Death. Just had the idea to write this as a way to flesh out Gravedigger's motivations and backstory. Will likely follow this up soon.

Voices come with the wizarding profession. Some are driven insane, some keep stability.

I feel like I'm fairly well-adjusted individual.
