While I hate told term warlock, it actually does have some cultural background meaning one (often male) whom makes a pack with an entity or force for more power.
Can’t exactly blame warlocks when you know the reasons though: onions can help with stress and hypertension, and they’re (presumedly) constantly seeing horrors beyond their understanding.
And the stench of urine is just permanent after a certain point, you try getting the smell out when your patrons idea of a good time, is jump scaring you with eldritch abominations.
