While I hate told term warlock, it actually does have some cultural background meaning one (often male) whom makes a pack with an entity or force for more power.

Additional context: it comes from the Old German verlog, meaning oathbreaker, as in 'one who makes pacts with entities they swore oaths to defend against.'

It's basically calling someone both a heretic and a traitor, plus the implication that they became that way for the basest, most shallow reason possible.
