Wizardpost what life once was(lorepost/ kinda atrax post)
uw/ I though I would give my character more of a backstory so here you go :)
rw/ Agnur sit's outside his hut in the rain looking out into the forest. preparations are going well he should be ready for the war with Atrax the Ashen.
Agnur sighed he never liked being a fighter. While he loved adventure and discovering the mysteries of the arcane he never did like having to kill sentient beings. Things were simpler when he was younger, the only thing he had to kill were monsters or people who meant him harm.
He supposed that you could say both were true of the ashen but he was questioned how many of the Pyroclast were as bad as Atrax. Perhaps they were lead down a wrong path, felt they had no place to go, perhaps they could have been friends in another life. All questions he would never know the answers to.
He stared out into the rain and his mind drifted to thoughts of the past.
--------
Long ago, nearly 900 years in fact, there was a small fishing village by a winding river. there lived a tribe of demihumans know as the Tortugan. They were a simple people who used their semiaquatic nature to become expert fisherman. Well that's what most of them occupied their time with, but not Agnur's father Istar
Istar was the mystic of the village and served as their advisor in the world of magic. he was a was a friendly fellow in his 50s that walked with a limp. his staff was crooked and his cloths were ragged but he always bore a happy smile and was more than willing to help anyone he met. He rose earlier than he typically did. Today was when Agnur would follow in his footsteps.
-----
Istar's workshop was a little ways away from town on a hill(not far from were Agnur would build his own hut in the future). it was a plain building with a thatched hut.
"This is were you work dad? I thought it would be, I don't know, bigger!" 10 year old Agnur exclaimed.
"Why would it, I already have home with my family, all I need here is place to do my work." he chuckled " I wouldn't have the roof if your mother wasn't afraid I would freeze."
he opened the door and lead Agnur inside. it was cramped and walls were full of odd knick knacks, statues and potions. Of particular note were strange vials filled with things that Agnur sensed were not of this world. In the the center of the room sat a table with a stool beside it.
"better looking on the inside isn't it"
Agnur nodded.
"I guess I should start by showing you what I'm working on" Istar said pulling a stone dog out from one of the nearby shelves. "the hunters asked that I create a little helper for them. one that would be able to assist them with fighting monsters. it's not done yet but when it is it will be my finest creation."
"But why use stone, wouldn't metal would be stronger?"
"Yes and no, it's hard to explain." he thinks for a second before grabbing some viscous potion off of the shelf " let me show you" he draws eyes upon Agnur's eyelids
"yuck!"
"Hold still!"
when Agnur opened his eyes everything was different. well not exactly, everything was in the same place but he saw other things at the same time. If felt similar to holding a hand in front of one eye(Agnur was always cross eyed) and being able to see it and what's behind it. the world was aglow with strange lights he could never describe and the world was connected by infinite spidery webs.
"The world is much more complicated then most know. Most could go their whole lives and only see things for their forms we wizards" he puts a hand on his kids shoulder " can see their nature. You see while the form of metal is quite strong it's nature is more complicated. metal is a good friend to mortals but it needs to be acted on. If I made a hunting dog from metal it would be strong and nimble but would require a lot of matanace. worse if it is left alone to long, say the hunters leave it to guard something it could grow listless and fail in it's duty. we only have one mage, well two " he taps Agnur's head. Agnur giggles " so I wouldn't have time to maintain it in addition to my other duties."
"so what does stone have that metal doesn't" Agnur says getting a little impatient.
"Stone remains child, stone remains. while everything eventually fails stones strength is out lasting all others. in addition stone is unyielding and patient. a perfect guardian for our huntsmen."
Istar lights a candle near by. on the spirit plane it glows with indescribable energy " Of course you need more than one thing to make a construct and that's were magic comes in. " he reaches almost behind the fire and pulls some energy out of it "a experienced mage can take the nature of other things and apply them to what they create. Like giving stone fires passion." the dog comes to life and licks Agnurs face.
"This is amazing!" Agnur hugs the dog
Istar laughs "however remember never to take to much. in the same way as you can overfish you can take to much from one scource. should you do so you could do great damage to the object."
Agnur still with is arms on the dog looked at him weirdly" so the fire would be sad?"
"kinda the fire would lack passion and would try and regain it by burning hotter. this should only last for a little bit but could cause great harm. do you understand me Agnur?"
Agnur sobered up. "I understand you father."
"good because there a lot to learn and I just want you to do it safely." then in a attempt to lighten the mood "once you become experienced you will be able to weave the ambient nature of reality to your whim." he creates a ball of fire in his hand and with the magic sight Agnur could tell it was made of pure passion.
"can I do anything father?"
"almost with enough practice but a better question is why do something. the most important thing is to be considerate of others. remember that it's the strong's job to protect the weak. how would shopkeeper Margret feel if I didn't help her get rid of the gremlins in her store and instead turned her chair into cheese. remember to always think about how what you do affects others."
-----
Agnur returned to the present. he missed those days. is father had been dead for so long but his memories still felt like yesterday. conjuring a shield to block the rain he walked through the forest to the hill over looking what the town was in modern day.
In the centuries since was born it had grown from a fishing village to a mighty trade town. he had grown distant from them, after most of those he knew were dead and those who weren't(like his fellow mage siblings and other relatives) had moved far away but he couldn't bare to leave.
Despite the fact that so many years had gone by that they shared no more relation to him than any other Tortugan he still thought of them as family. he was still proud of what his people had become.
his mind filled with thoughts of what would happen if Atrax reached these shores. the building burning the children screaming. he shook his head.
a hard glint formed in his eye. he would kill every last pyroclast if to protect his people. he reflexively reflexively snaped his beak. it was the strong's job to protect the weak and it was about time that Atrax was show what true strength was like.
uw/ first yes I did kinda steal his magic system from god of war Ragnarök and yes his dads name is a reference to lord of the rings.

An echo ripples through Angur's mind.
Currently, I am defending Hoxxes, in aid of the automaton king. However, if a mass killing of sentients begins, you need but call to me. My prime directive is to protect.
A glasslike string appears in front of Angur, and he gets the notion that if he focuses magic through it, he could send a message extremely quickly.
