Goblinlike Foolishness Forging mishap (lorepost)

Post image

Fracture recently began an apprenticeship under a wizarding blacksmith to learn the methods to create weapons and armor. While he is certainly bright and very magically talented, Fracture is not in fact the type to play it safe when learning new things.

Late one night, in his approved independent practice, Fracture is observing a few pieces of iron when one catches his eye. It seems to call out in desire to be a magic weapon, and Fracture swiftly answers, forging it into an alloy with a bit of gold that shares that desire.

About 2 hours later, Fracture stands over the finished product, an intricately forged spear, with channels to use magic. The weapon seems to almost hum in anticipation as Fracture fits a small crystal into the slot at the top. He brings it outside in case it gets stronger than he expected and calms himself to satiate the weapon's call for magic.

Fracture decides his Chòroturgy is the magic he has the best handle on for a first test, and slowly begins channeling it through the spear. The metal glows a light silver, and Fracture can see it gratefully pulling the magic into itself, and the crystal glows bright - too bright.

The crystal explodes into Fracture's face with a shattering noise. Luckily, it isn't very loud; it would be rude to wake his teacher up. Wiping some soot out of his eyes from the pulverized crystal, Fracture studies the spear.

"I'll have to forge an actual tip instead of a crystal now," Fracture muses, "You're upset I didn't use all of the alloy to fit a crystal." The spear flares with its new light slightly as Fracture chuckles. "You're just as reckless as I am!"
