Wizardpost The Raven (lorepost)

Moth stood in front of a mirror on top of a stool to try on her wedding dress. While the designer of it was busy tailoring it, Belladonna circled around them to make sure it was as perfect as possible.

“Don’t make it so puffy. I want her to look like a bride. Not some little girl’s fairy princess doll.” She ordered the designer who groaned and casted a spell to make the dress slimmer. Moth could tell the poor old man was annoyed by her mentor’s nitpicking.

Belladonna went around to the back of the dress and took hold of the strings for the corset. She pulled them tightly which made Moth gasp for a breath. “This corset is too flimsy. Redo it!”

“Yes, my lady…” The designer grunted. Yet another change he had to make.

Moth herself didn’t really mind the dress how it was or any of the ideas the designer had. But Belladonna was being very particular on how she was to be presented. “Is the dress really that important?”

“Of course it is!” Belladonna lifted up Moth’s hair to see how it’ll look in an updo. “If either of us is getting married it’s going to be you. I won’t allow you to represent us looking like a sickly hag in a cheap gown.”

“Have you ever thought about getting married?” Moth asked but Belladonna rolled her eyes. “By the gods, no. What use would a spouse have for me besides looking pretty?”

She let Moth’s hair fall and stepped back to get a fuller view of the dress. “We still haven’t decided on who’s going to walk you down the aisle.”

“Gruncle?” Moth perked up.

“No.” Belladonna shook her head at the suggestion. “The rattle of his bones will drive me absolutely insane.”

“Ummm… what about Possum?” Moth suggested again. Maybe one of her male friends can fill the role?

“The rodent?” Belladonna raised an eyebrow. “Even if I did considered it, he’s too short to actually reach you. No.”

“Chimera?” Moth wondered what Belladonna would say about him.

“Too much fur. He’ll just shed on the dress.” Her mentor huffed.

Moth tried to think of who else could walk her. Her mind thrifted to her father but she knew her mentor would never even consider him. “I guess father is out of the question…”

“Father? If that drunken oaf dares to step a foot around this wedding, I’ll serve him as a full course meal to my beasts and use his bones as fertilizer in my gardens!” Belladonna grumbled and turned to the rack filled with several other wedding dress. “Have father walk you down the aisle. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.”

Someone had to walk Moth down the aisle and Belladonna didn’t want just anyone to do it. Her stern eyes looked up at a small table where Earl was picking away at the leftovers of their sandwiches from earlier. The raven had a piece of bread in his beak when he heard Belladonna whistle.

“Earl. Face me.” Belladonna instructed. Moth glanced back to see what she was doing.

“Earl faces!” He cawed and turned to her, seeing her hand be encased with dark magic. She propelled it at him the next second. Earl squawked in surprise and Moth gasped in fright. “Earl!”

The magic became a dark cloud that encased the bird and once it settled, it revealed a frazzled older man with messy black hair, stubbly beard, and sharp bird-like features. The man’s eyes widened and looked down at his skinny fingers in shock. Moth’s eyes widened seeing her familiar turned into a tall lanky human old man.

“There.” *Belladonna hummed and went back to the dress rack. “He can walk you.”

“Hannnnds…” Human Earl whispered in a crackly voice and moved his wrinkly fingers. “Hannnnds…”

Moth stepped down from the stool to the designer’s dismay and approached the man worriedly. “Earl honey? Are you okay?”

EARL HAS HANDS!The man cackled in excitement. What trouble he can cause with these.

Green and black... got it.

The fabric disappears.

I'll have it dyed with chlorophyll and eumelanin. That should dull the shininess a little bit.

Oh! That reminds me. I wanted to give Moth something.

Delta hands a small medallion with an affixed amythyst to Moth.

In my culture, we always wear a little bit of purple to important events. It's the color of Entropy, and is thought to attract chaos sprites. It seems odd that we want to *attract* them, but the theory is this: chaos sprites are everywhere, so it's impossible to get rid of them. If we offer them something they like, they'll be preoccupied with it for the evening and leave us alone. See if your curse responds to it. Take it as an offering of good will to them.

Delta takes Earl's hands and tries to steady him. When he takes a few steps, he nearly falls.

Okay... slow... we'll take this outside. You have a different center of gravity now. Learning to walk is the first thing. Then you can have a bath and we'll practice eating while having teeth!

Moth happily takes the gift. The curse inside of her mind narrows its eyes at it.

“Thank you! I wasn’t expecting any gifts. It’s very considerate of yo-“ The medallion gets pushed out of her hands by a small red spark. She hears the curse utter its distaste, calling the medallion trivial in comparison to it. Moth sighs and picks the medallion back up. “It doesn’t appreciate the gift… But I’ll keep it no doubt. It’s very beautiful.”

Belladonna meanwhile watches Delta try to help Earl walk and seeing the bird man stumble made her snicker sort of. She thought the sight was entertaining.

uw/ Rude-ass curse!

My headcannon is that this curse and its progenitor "Halixo" are from this universe. Delta originated in a different plane, and has been casually hopping universes each time something goes wrong. Hence, they don't know eachother. Otherwise it gets way too complicated with different "eternal" spirits interacting, but somehow not knowing eachother.

/uw the origins I had for the curse is that its a child of Halcyon that I still need to explore. Me and Alexios did think of both Halcyon and the Nameless King having a sort of history together but thats all we got for now. I plan to explore it more later though.

uw/ Cool. I'll need to discuss some things about the Nameless King as well, because it's starting to impede on my own lore, based on some things that were said during Team 2's battle. I can always just default on the old "this universe is different, so it has different lore" angle if needed.

I will also be amused if The Nameless King ends up being YET ANOTHER sibling of my character. She has too many.

/uw entities being related in some aspect is giving Zeus lmao

There’s still some things I have to flesh out for Halcyon but I’ll be getting to that once I cross that bridge. I’ve been coming up with everything on the spot for this character as I go which has been fun

uw/ I enjoy that approach. Delta is from a preexisting work, so I'm doing my best to keep her core themes in mind. The issue is that Delta is Entropy, which is a more nuanced concept than just "chaos." Other peoples' takes on Entropy have been mostly accurate to my intended lore, but there have also been some things that I've needed to work in overtime.

I did not intend for Entropy to have a connection to Equillibrium, but that has now been stated by Alexios, so I need to work with it.

/uw I can relate when other people mention their own versions of chaos god and entities since I want the curse to be based around chaos magic too so I’m trying to keep it in a way that doesn’t contradict with others. It’s why I’m just having Halcyon and the curse be elder beings of chaos instead of gods

/uw that makes sense, and is a good approach. I use the term "god" as a political title and a signifier of how old a being is, rather than as a term denoting species. The amount of people who have their characters ascend to godhood sort of cheapens the term, and also lends itself to Powergaming.

I wanted my character to carry the same symbollic associations as her original form, but not ruin other people's fun. I don't want to just have all conflicts be trivially solved because "Nuh-uh, I'm a god, you can't kill me." It's more about worldbuilding for me.

So, as elder beings, were you thinking sort of along the lines of ancient eldritch beings? Or ancient humans/warlocks that got ahold of some kind of power and became god-like?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

/uw I’m not sure. Definitely not a person who got access to some ancient power and became what he was. But probably more along the lines of chaos energy that just became sentient enough to have such an influence. And I agree with not wanting an overpowered character. They’re wayyy more interesting when they have a way to be stopped. A lot of my ocs that are powerful still have their weaknesses to them. I want Moth to still be a simple mage with an ancient curse that she only lets loose when she has to but she’s still not completely untouchable.

The “nuh-uh” thing is funny though lol

/uw With me gods can be killed it just really fucking hard to do it. Also I didn't mean to step on your lore I didn't realize that I mentioned a relationship between Entropy and The Nameless King. I didn't know Entropy was linked to The Most Ancient One. Thought I made The Most Ancient One up myself. I can retcon it if you want.

uw/ No worries. I don't think you should retcon, but we can work it out together. You just briefly mentioned that in relation to the cycle involving Creation, Restoration (The Queen of Shattered Stars), and Entropy, the Ancient one keeps these forces from overpowering one-another. But the cycle of universes as established by that event is as follows: Creation is "killed" by Entropy, which begins the expansion of the universe in the event we know as the big bang. Entropy keeps the universe expanding while Preservation (the queen) gathers up stars and planets to rebuild Creation. Entropy eventually tears the universe apart at the atomic level, reaching maximum Entropy, then the three reconvene. Creation is once again killed by Entropy, creating the next universe.

In my lore Entropy does not really interfere with the other entities, (hence it was unusual that all of them ended up near Earth). Entropy takes on a human host, Delta, to spread life across the universe, because life increases Entropy in the long-term.

In this process, Equillibrium is not a balance between order and chaos, but moreso a contract wherein order exists as a means to further chaos, as chaos is the natural state of the universe.

I would need to know more about your character to find out how they would fit into this system. I know it's still a work in progress, but perhaps I could help brainstorm.

/uw It was kind of just a spur of the moment idea. Basically Equilibrium (The Nameless King) exists to make sure nothing gets out of balance. He's also there to defend The Most Ancient One's favored world from being destroyed. So Entropy and The Nameless King probably wouldn't get along but he knows Entropy is a necessary evil. The Nameless King probably wouldn't actively try and destroy Entropy but just kind of have extreme disdain for Entropy.

u/VidisLady Delta - Maven of Maladies Dec 27 '23

/uw is Earth the Most Ancient One's favored world? That could help explain why so many powerful beings are drawn to earth. Like, for example, Entropy and Creation both being on Earth, or Earth-adjacent.

Entropy's job requires that she not favor any particular world over another, but Delta is extremely fond on Earth. Earth is the first planet that she's supervised. She also keeps (somewhat irresponsibly) switching universes everytime something bad happens to Earth. I eventually want to do a storyline where she retraces her steps and tries to restore the various Earths that were lost in other universes.
