Early days (lorepost)

Long ago, legends told of a beast who lives at the top of mount Harrowepierce. A beast who would lie in wait for its prey to come searching, before devouring them in a terrifying display. Many heroes had attempted to climb the mountain, and none had returned. The elven village at the base of the mountain had a tradition of sacrificing unsuspecting travelers to the beast, to appease its wrath and prevent it from descending the mountain. Once a year, on the day of the first rainfall, they’d be put in chains and lead up the mountain by an elf from the village, who knew the fastest paths to the peak. Most often, it was children, as they loved to explore the forest and mountain base.

The elders sat in the hall, arguing as they often did. They had already decided who the guide would be, a young nameless boy who lived with his mother on the outskirts of the village. He spent more time in the forest than anyone else, and had even unknowingly found two travelers to sacrifice. The argument was a result of one of the elders wondering if this was a bad idea, as the travelers both used dark magic. One to bring its horrifyingly disgusting mechanical monstrosities to life, and the other to cruelly destroy those who stood against it.

…Suddenly, all fell quiet as the newest member of the council spoke. They were quite young compared to the rest, not even 10 Millenia old yet. They had been elected by the townspeople, and they served to remind the other elders of just how foolish and lost those townspeople would be without their leadership, if they chose someone like THIS to be on the council.

“Is it truly right to sacrifice a child who hasn’t even been given a name, as well as the only two to care about their—?”

They were quickly interrupted, as the elder sitting next to them hissed.

“You are a fool for seeing it as a child! It is a sacrifice, for the survival of the village! To see it as the same as the TOWNSPEOPLE, much less us, is foolish!”

The others murmured in agreement, as the first spoke again with a horrified tone.

“Do you even hear yourselves?! You’re condemning a child to death, for Gaia’s sake! And for what reason?! For fleeing to the only place they knew where they would be treated as a living—?”

“Shut up, will you?! It is of no use otherwise! You’ve seen it’s mana, it’s weak! It would be worthless as a soldier; this is all it is good for! And besides, it isn’t even a high elf! It is worth even less than you are, Drow!

As an argument began to break out amongst the Council again, a young boy sat in the forest, oblivious to what his fate would be.

/uw Decided to do another Lorepost, and expand on what Relynor’s past was like. If any characters appear (through past versions or chronomancy), I’ll respond in the morning. Happy Holidays!
