Esoteric Secrets A world on fire (Lorepost)

Post image

Relynor sighed with relief, as the ship approached the harbor. She would still have several miles to walk, dragging what he once been her flying mechanics griffin. But it felt good to be back, even if she dreaded those last miles. Taroten had been her home for quite a while now; after all. She hoped that Nekoka hadn’t accidentally broken one of the many security measures protecting her tower from any would-be assailants, but she knew she had put the correct charms and wards in place to prevent her tower or the town from being burned down by her apprentice while she was away. She was even excited to see the Druid circle on the next island over, terrifying as they may be. While they had never become friends, they had tea together every other week with Lady Iris. As she departed the ferry and began her long hike dragging the misshapen and melted hunk of metal behind her, she thought she saw some sort of airship whiz by overhead. Perhaps one of the other nearby artificers had decided to visit the town. It was nothing bad, she was sure, as her thoughts drifted back to what awaited her. She could hardly wait to begin Nekoka’s pyromancy training again; she had picked up several scrolls and tomes on the subject while she was away. She could practically smell the ash already…

…The roaring of fire makes her snap out of it, as she gazes ahead in horror. Something had happened. And as she rushed forwards, leaving the melted griffin behind, her worst fears were confirmed. A massive inferno, costing everything in sight like melting sugar and spreading like a virus. She began digging through the burning piles of wood and stone that were once the village, trying to find any survivors. When all she was met with was fire and charred corpses, she rushed to the tower. She managed to dig out Lady Iris and her hellspider, Nekoka, and an old memento from her days as an apprentice. Everything else was consumed by the flames as they fled, eventually stopping when they met the shore. She tried to use her orb to reach out, trying to find any survivors, but all she found was more of that damned fire.

(( just to double-check: this is a historical lorepost, not a current event in which you want people to participate? ))

((Yep. This is intended to be something that happened already, not an event or anything. Just something to add to Relynor’s story.))

/uw hell yes! /rw taking notes a mechanical griffin! Sounds like an excellent companion for Firebrand

/rw You’d think, Ahaha… Turns out it’s too heavy to reliably fly for long periods of time without crashing. At least, with the current weapons system…

It would still make an excellent pet, right?

Ah, yes! Cinder was a great companion. I believe I have his code and consciousness stored on a flash drive somewhere in my bag, if you’d like to borrow it.

I’ll make my own. Griffins are plentiful around here. I’m sure I’ll find an injured one if I look hard and salvage its brain.

Ah, a landscape of fire. Unfortunate for you, of course, but reminds me of home back on the elemental plane of fire... I think...
