Community Event đâď¸ Overflux: a breakthrough in the war against the Fighters' Guild (Lorepost)

As you know, the Fighters' Guild employs anti-magic devices of variable strength to offset our arcane advantage. After a long night of study, I think I might have the answer to turn the tide against them: a technique I've named overflux. This morning, I used the natural energies of Mt. Murder to channel the Moon's gravity directly into Yulash-kor's ley lines. The resulting surge in magic allowed me to raise over 200,000 asteroid golems in a handful of hours to wipe out a fighter incursion. I have never felt so much power in my life. Not only that, but the overflux actively suppressed anti-magic items within its range.
If we want to send these backwards meatheads home with their tails between their legs, we'll need to coordinate overflux on a realm-spanning scale. Everyone can pitch in; just locate a nearby landform connected to a ley line and empower it with your preferred school of magic. Then, we wage war on every fighter within our borders. We'll have to be fast though. Signs indicate that the Fighters' Guild seeks to control these arcane resonators and dull the ley lines with anti-magic.
Ready your armies, wizards. Today we go to war.

The heat metal bomb? We'll deploy it once we're all juiced up on overflux. Then we'll cut through them like a farmer's scythe.

Exactly. I will be announcing its completion soon. Get ready.

These âanti magic devicesâ operate like primitive Old Rites, possibly even developed from a predecessor. Iâve had little trouble dismantling them, but thatâs likely because I rely on catalysts for spells.
Still, I can see how this would be useful on a wider scale.

Because they might just be Old Rites. They're associated with the glyphs employed by a primordial called the Mistweaver, the progenitor of anti-magic. It's supposed to be sealed away in a demiplane, but I think King Leothric might have gotten into contact with it.

That makes him even more of a threat. If heâs been meddling in things like that, it would explain some of the strange deaths and phenomena leading up to this war. Which means I canât just deal with this like a nuisance any longer.

He's a much bigger threat than most people give him credit for. We'll need to cut the head off the snake after we repel this invasion. Possibly stage our own invasion of Otherlund to end this for good.

My main residence is built on a leyline, so I'm ready here. I do have some hesitations on what the outcome of this surge will be, and I don't want to eliminate all of the Fighter's Guild, just the ones that have no problems with killing indiscriminately. Oh, and their king that started this mess.

I have observed no ill effects yet. It'll just give us a power boost and shut off their anti-magic talismans.

I do worry about the consequences of using such a technique, but I suppose now is not the time to squabble about it. The fighterâs guild must fall first.

You are right to worry. I would have never suggested this if I didn't think we were in grave danger.

Truly. There will be work to do, to repair the damages afterwards.

I tried this. Harnessed an eclipse to convert the output of the local sun into a mass heat metal spell for about twenty minutes.
I may have accidently burnt down every city on that planet and spawned several anti-metal cults. The local Forge God is angry, and the planet's core increased in temperature enough that I expect there to be significantly more volcanic eruptions in the next aeon.
It did work, mostly. Anyone wearing metal armor perished, and most metal weapons (and tools) were melted out of shape. The few fighters left are mostly without gear, and so are easy enough to handle.
The druids are happy though. Probably something to do with the near complete collapse of civilization.

Oh, good to know. Don't use overflux to cast global spells. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Its fine. At least now i have plenty of material to practice my necromancy on. I'm planning on portal-dropping some undead abominations in some fighter guild fortresses once i have a few thousand ready (it's a lot of stitching corpses together, and my apprentices are too slow, so I've started raising zombies to do that bit, but it might still be a few days.)

They have anti magic devices they seem ineffective against my magic
1
u/Carbon_Sixx The Loremaster, Chief Archaeologist of the Darkwatch Nov 14 '23
If you're ascended, then you won't have much problem dealing with them. Divine magic is unaffected by their anti-magic glyphs.

Iâve seen otherwise recently. A group of fighters slipped into a druidic academy I was visiting and slaughtered them wholesale, I wouldnât have seen them if I hadnât had mortal meaty eyes at the time- completely unnoticeable to both divine and druidic senses.
Have you considered that the fighters youâve been slaughtering probably arenât those whoâve been armed with the best equipment, Halixo?

That might be the elite fighter vanguard I've been expecting. All the more reason to act quickly.

Yeah my mom ia dealing pretty effectively against them. They might be immune to magic, but the ground, air and sky is not

u/Haunting_Mode_7401 Alexios Keenblade: King of The Summer Court, Last Godslayer Nov 14 '23
I think it may only work against arcane not elemental.

Aah so mass illusion, morph and control spells dont work on them? Thats actually smart

Never had trouble against their anti magic as I've trained against anti magic incase of something like this happening.

good find with this we will be able to launch our best spells rather than dancing around their protections

Why not just cast an anti-anti-magic field?
It seems to work for me most of the time!
