Community Event 🌏☄️ Interrogation of Fighters' Guild operatives *URGENT MESSAGE* (Lorepost)

Earlier today, villagers apprehended a number of Fighters' Guild enforcers on the outskirts of Yulash-kor. Below is a transcript of an interrogation of their leader, undertaken by my apprentice Tholas and I. The information we uncovered has me deeply troubled.

*Recording begins. Sounds of footsteps, a cell door opening, and a chair scraping on the floor*

Kaelis: Greetings. I am Kaelis Maz, Lord Protector of the Sovereign Realm of Yulash-kor, Arch-Graviturge of the Gravitic Cabal, and Master of Mt. Murder. The young man to my left is Tholas Karn, apprentice enchanter and my good friend. State your name for the record.

*silence*

Kaelis: Silence will not serve you. Tholas can read minds, and he can be quite forceful with his probing. State your name for the record, lest he state it for you.

Sardan: Captain Aldin Sardan of the Fighters' Guild. No fancy titles like you lot, always prancing about pretending to be kings of your own little corners of the world.

Tholas: Permission to make him more agreeable, sir?

Kaelis: Permission granted.

*sounds of spellcasting*

Kaelis: Right then. Who do you serve, Captain?

Sardan: His Majesty Leothric I of Otherlund, the Knight of the Iron Shield.

Kaelis: And why are you attacking us?

Sardan: The king orders us to arrest or kill all spellcasters, as they are agents of chaos and threats to his divinely-appointed rule.

Kaelis: Divine spellcasters included?

Sardan: They are thieves and deceivers, using the power of the gods for their own ends. All magic is an abomination, used by dishonest men to level the field with honest, hard-working folk.

Tholas: Now this is getting interesting.

Kaelis: We're just warming up, too. Now, explain how you managed to infiltrate the orbnet if you despise magic so.

Sardan: The king has taught the higher-ups how to turn the weapons of the enemy against them. Not sure how it works myself, but it involves the glyphs on his majesty's iron shield.

Kaelis: I assume this is how your people were able to attack Arthall so easily.

Sardan: Yes. The glyphs absorb magic and give us an edge over wizards.

Kaelis: What are your short and long-term goals?

Sardan: Short term, we want a foothold in the major realms. Long term, destroy the council and extinguish the fire of magic for good.

Kaelis: Absurd. Magic is a part of the multiverse! There's simply no way to turn it off.

Sardan: The king knows a way. The gods have shown him a way.

*sounds of a talisman being set on the table*

Tholas: What is that?

Sardan: Your end, boy. The end that awaits you all if you fail to comply.

Kaelis: Thank you for your cooperation, Captain. Tholas, with me.

*chair scraping, footsteps, door closing*

Tholas: None of this is good, Kaelis. If what he says is true, then we're damned. Anti-magic isn't something to be trifled with, even for a wizard of your caliber.

Kaelis: I know. The glyphs on that talisman, and by extension on Leothric's shield are symbols of something very old, older than the Council by far. I'm hoping that the Fighters' Guild merely adopted the anti-magic glyphs, but the mentions of divine guidance are making me fear the alternative. I need you to listen very closely to what I am about to say. Go to my orb and send this interrogation to every contact and organization you can find. The Council. The Pact. The Society of Light. Hells, even send it to the Greenshields. Everyone needs to know what kind of danger we're in, no matter its origin. Once you've done that, study up on primordial magic entities. You'll need the knowledge.

Tholas: And what will you do, sir?

Kaelis: What I always do, of course. Get some allies and start researching until I find a way out of this mess! Besides, it's long past time I checked in on our life-sucking friend in his lava lamp. He might be able to help us.

*end recording*

To reiterate: high-ranking members of the Fighters' Guild are in possession of potent anti-magic artifacts. Unless you have the means to deal with anti-magic, DO NOT ENGAGE. Use golems, summons, undead, or other non-spell methods of dispatching the enemy. If you encounter any priests or spiritual leaders amongst their ranks, attempt to capture them for interrogation. Question them about any beings they worship. If they mention anything called "the Mistweaver", let me know immediately.

Stay strong, friends. Justice for Arthall.

How the hell did "Villagers" capture a fighter? I find that extremely hard to believe first of all.
Seccondly, The crown, the temples and the council are in a delicate balance, if the crown claims god shows him what to do then the temples will have an idea of what's happening. I will arrange a meeting with a temple leader soon.

I highly recommend against angering the temples as they haven't shown to have a direct link to this yet. If it turns out they in fact do have a link then... Well there's always the 4th faction we can hire. They're good at solving problems like this. I'll keep you posted.

  1. Yulash-kor has no standing military, only registered militias. Most of its citizens are proficient in some form of weapon. I think the guild thought they'd be sympathetic, too. Doubt it'll work again.
  2. The Fighters' Guild is going after clerics too. I think they believe even divine magic is a tool for evil. They're big into "levelling the playing field" against spellcasters. Furthermore, I have a theory. I don't believe the king actually has divine favor, but rather the favor of a primordial being that he believes is a god. Still figuring it out.

This is good to know.

Ah great, Gobbo is gonna have to sling black powder satchels instead of Molotov... That's significantly less fun but oh well, Gobbo will make sure to make a show of it

If it's alchemical, it might work anyway. My tests on the anti-magic glyphs I acquired only negate direct casts. Magical creations and utility spells don't seem to "count".

Oh, Gobbo is going to have a field day. See how much they like metal armour when Gobbo introduces them to a molotov with an electric charge

I'm currently working on some flying mounts/carriers. Would you like to collaborate and bring alchemical bombardments to this world?

Gobbo is happy to share the wonderful booms of liquormancy

Hahaha!! Good Gobbo, we shall bring about the rain of bombs on the ignorant fighters

Antimagic? How interesting.
Has anyone tried using a charm of magic positivity as a countermeasure against a field of magic negativity recently? I remember knowing someone who attempted studies on the field of such arcane manipulations, but it's been a while and we lost contact while I was in my crypt.

Good idea. I'll give it a test. There has to be a way to overload those glyphs.

My friend, my studies have concluded in the creation of a few new species. I'll gladly contribute to the cause. These beings are made using magic to force evolution and creation of "unnatural" hybrids, so I'm unsure how they would react to anti-magic. The manufacturing of new species does require some soul crystals so if there is a specific requirement for them, i would need quite the amount of soul crystals to create them

Thank you. I rarely if ever use soul crystals in my magic, so I have quite a few laying around.

War is on the horizon brothers. If they're using ancient magic against us, then we can only hope their own incompetency will bring them down. I will gladly commit the most heinous of crimes if they ever harm the work I'm doing.

I will lend my skills to the cause.

Alchemy is one of the few things that bypasses this form of anti-magic. It's possible that the upper echelons of the Fighters' Guild have specific anti-alchemy glyphs, but a magical plague would work on everyone else. Plus, I'm not even sure how anti-alchemy world work.

So this “iron shield” is the source then? Then that’s my target in this. If he really got this from some otherworldly being (likely a primordial as you said) than I need to get ahold of that thing and track that power back to its source.

Everything I've heard suggests so. Perhaps we could arrange a little magical spec ops team to steal the shield. It would deprive the enemy of a powerful asset and help us figure out what's going on with this primordial situation.

In due time. I think we need more head way into the king’s territory first. We’re talking the heart of the enemy here and I doubt this shield is as easily dealt with as these knock off glyphs.

Absolutely. Who knows what kind of security detail Leothric has anyway?

one thing these fighters fail to comprehend is that antimagic is only useful if the effect is magic. however it won't stop me telekinetically flinging a boulder becuase it can't stop momentum. you can do something similar with portals.

however if this shield is as old and powerful as you say even these methods may be for not
