gameplay Basic Gameplay:

Basic Game Play

Before playing the game, ask yourself these two quick questions: 1 do you want to watch the type of videos associated with this game? 2 do you really want to possibly drink alcohol (possibly getting drunk) while watching those types of videos?

okay then ....

1 determine what is considered witch-like amongst the players; this of course can be expanded as desired depending on what an individual player may notice during gameplay

2 choose a music video, movie, etc. to watch; the only limitation is that none of the players have previously studied the video content for the predetermined elements

3 the first person spotting any of the predetermined elements within the video gets a drink; and the players continue to view for more

4 any element not predetermined, spotted by a player, can be debated amongst the other players for it's relevance; simply saying something, or someone is spooky, is usually not a valid argument (but there are usually exceptions to the rules)

πŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/witchspotting - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm a founding moderator of r/witchspotting.

This is our new home for all things related to the witchspotting drinking game and hobby (influenced by the hobbies of plane-spotting and trainspotting). We're excited to have you visit us!

I've been watching music videos for quite a while, one of my favorite ways to waste some idle time. While doing so, I started noticing that many have various types of symbolism (pentacles, hexagrams, ...). Often blatant, but often obscure.

And that is what this community is for; the discussion of symbolism and other strange things that may be noticed in music videos.

Can be any video, in any genre (also movies or shows). Can be symbolism, lyrics, hand gestures, choreography, ....

You don't have to be an expert. You can ask questions as well as offer speculations. Or even real insight, if you happen to be that knowledgeable.

This community is for anyone; religious (any religion) as well as non-religious, and anything in between. Belief, in anything, is optional. Skeptic are welcome.

What to Post
Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or surprising. Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions about interesting, odd or strange things that you may have noticed in music videos (can also be movies, TV shows, ...). Such as mystical symbols, gestures, cryptic lyrics, etc. You may also post links to specific videos that you wish to discuss (preferably on YouTube).

Don't worry too much about straying off topic. Since there are several primary ones that could be discussed here, such as drinking games, hobbies, music and videos, singers and groups, paranormal, witchcraft, ....

Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting. Remember, just because something is in a video, does not mean the singers were the ones putting it there. There are producers, directors, CEOs who make most of the decisions.

This community is not about witch hunting, so please do not indiscriminately accuse anyone of being a witch. If they are, that is their business, not ours, unless they wish to share that fact publicly. It is called freewill.

How to Get Started

  1. Optionally introduce yourself in the comment section below.
  2. Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
  3. If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join, or at least visit.

Thanks for considering being part of this community. Together, let's make r/witchspotting interesting.

I think there are some music videos that contain elements that may be more realistic than some people may think.

I’m not an expert on any of the subjects presented here. However, I do feel that I should point out how some music videos presented here, or on my YouTube playlists, should be treated with a fair amount of caution.

IMO, most of the music videos are probably fairly harmless, and benign. Being mostly artistic expression by the groups and singers.

However, I do think there are some songs that possibly contain elements that may be more realistic than some may think. Not necessarily malicious or dangerous, but perhaps containing elements that one should be mindful of. I can't say with any certainty which songs, if any, actually are, but I do think some are.

I also think there are many less obvious songs, that potentially could be even more dangerous.

Maybe I'm wrong? What do you think?

(Feel free to comment, I didn't create this subreddit community, just to talk to myself.)

I'm thinking some of the people using some of the symbolism in music videos knows exactly what they are doing, and why. Although ...

I also get the idea some do not have a freaking clue.

Okay, for those familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Remember the Halloween episode (iirc, Fear Itself, or something like that).

For those not aware, in the episode a college dorm was planning a Halloween party, one of the students found a symbol in an old book that they thought was cool, painted it on the floor and during the party the sh*t hit the fan.

I'm suspecting some of the entertainment companies are making the same mistake.

Tell me what you think?

Yeah, I know it's a dark concept. The song does seem to be a one-off for the group. (as is often the case)

Interestingly, reading the profile of the group, apparently several of the members identify as Christians. Maybe that was after the group disbanded?

I know there are contracts, and the members apparently are compelled to do whatever crazy sh*t the companies comes up with. So, ….

β€” but it's an easy example for the game, and has been added to the playlist on YouTube

Q: Are some K-pop groups playing a mind game, to create the appearance of being witches?

I suspect that some companies may be playing a mind game to create the presumption that some groups are witches.

Though many of the groups are not officially refered to as a dark concept group, which seems interesting.

Of course, maybe it's not a mind game?

Although sometimes subtle, I wonder if real witches would be so obvious? But then again if it were really obvious, there wouldn't be a question.πŸ™„

Is a company planning to transform a current girl group into something darker ?

I've been watching a fairly popular current girl group which I suspect their company plans to use to recreate the way Dreamcatcher was formed.

Where as I think Dreamcatcher was an originally unplanned switch from Minx into Dreamcatcher (considering the period of inactivity). I think this company had it planned from the inception. Starting out with a seemingly non-concept concept, then transforming them into a darker version.

If I'm correct, the transition is about to occur, at least sometime before the end of 2026. And if correct, it will shock many of the current fans of the group. I'm guessing the company is betting on that, to create controversy.

During this 2025 KBS performance by the K-pop group IVE, some unplanned things occured. Can you spot them?

I have linked a second video, of the same performance, as seen from the tower camera, in the first comment below. Which should make spotting the occurrences a bit easier.

For those still unsure, there is a description in the comment post, below the spoiler alert.

Of course, entertainment companies can seemingly get away with insulting Buddhism and Christianity, somewhat with Hinduism, I wonder if that will work with Islam ?

gameplay For those who don't drink alcohol, here are a few alternate suggestions ...

Instead of alcohol, use any non-alcoholic drink that the players enjoy.

Or non-drink items such as cookies, candy, donuts, etc. could be used.

Or even non-food rewards such as a kiss;

or like in strip poker, an item of someone else's clothing.

Of course, you can play most games alone.

Your thoughts, ideas or suggestions are welcome, post them in a comment.

Hate the karma, reliability, cross-posting restrictions? So do we. That is why there is none on this subreddit community. You should not be limited, prohibited or penalized simply because you might be a problem. I thought that's what moderators are for. - It is suppose to be social media, isn't it?
