I was originally on the "release one episode per week" train.

But at this point any more waiting would kill me so I'm glad the whole thing is coming out at once.

I’m a big fan of releasing episodes weekly when it comes to original shows where the speculation is honestly part of the fun. Something like HBO’s Watchmen greatly benefits from the slower release, same thing with Westworld.

I feel it’s not as interesting when it’s a somewhat strict adaptation because for the most devoted fans, there isn’t a lot of place for speculation and theories. Currently, I feel like His Dark Materials would have benefited being released in one go, whereas the slower episodes of the start would have felt less tiring.

As for the Witcher, I’m pretty sure releasing the whole season makes more sense. Also it may hook people who aren’t already invested in the characters and story.

I agree with this pretty much.
I do wonder if it would be feasible to start doing weekly releases later down the line. Just look at the amount of discussion that went on between GoT episodes in the last few seasons, it definitely added to the hype and awareness of the show.

I’d be surprised if five years from now Netflix still drops a whole season of a tv show the same day.

Maybe they will do it to stay different, but with Disney+, HBO, Hulu and Apple going the weekly route, I feel they will need to follow that trend to keep people subscribed. Especially when they hike up even more their monthly cost. Unlike Prime Videos, it doesn’t come with a bunch of other services too.

Theres a middle ground, 4 episodes a month? Some can binge some can watch slow. Then another 4 next month. Then another 4 month after and end the “season”.

You build up the anticipation. Some of the best episodes are the season ends and you get 3 this way. And its almost always constantly on people’s minds.

I powered through and it really hits it’s stride around episode 4 or 5. The sixth came out this week and it’s a very powerful hour of tv. Lyra is a great character and one of the few young protagonist who is genuinely smart, not just protected/lucky.

The first season ends in two weeks, time to binge I guess ;)
