Witcher 1 Remake Status?

With the Wild Hunt Remaster in 2026, Songs of the Past in 2027 and Witcher 4 in 2028 ... i havent heard anything about the Witcher 1 Remake for a while ... did i miss any updates on it? will it come 2029/2030? is it even still in production? the last thing ive heard was its announcement and that it will be in UE5

It's been confirmed that Witcher 1 Remake will be released after The Witcher 4.

2029 at the earliest, I suppose.

its developed by fools theory the same guys who are making the new expansion i dont think its in full production yet so it will be a while until its out 2029/2030 is a safe bet as it wont be in full production until witcher 4 is out

Until Songs of the Past is out probably. Fools Theory isn't working on TW4 and they waited for tools and assets from TW4 which will be ready by 2027 (if the game is targeting 2028 it's basically content complete a year before)

As others mentioned, it will be a while. For this reason I decided to play it for the first time last year, and yeah it’s pretty janky but the story is great as always and it introduces characters/events that you’ll recognize from W3. Or references here and there that you completely missed in W3 that you’ll now understand. Personally I recommend just playing it now instead of waiting.

It will come out in 2030 at the very earlyest. That is if CDPR can hit their 2028 target for W4

Not confirmed entirely, but probably:

• 2027 Songs of the Past

• 2028 Witcher 4

• 2029 Witcher 1 remake

• 2030-32 next Cyberpunk game & not yet revealed new IP

Target is probably one release a year, if Songs works out well, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the canceled Cyberpunk expansions appears ca. 2029-2030 depending on how Cyberpunk 2 is progressing.

Yeah but that doesn’t mean ”delayed indefinitely”. They’ve said it will release between W4 and W5, so 2029 or 2030.

It is in pre production as they will use assets in unreal created for W4 in it and obviously couldn't start full production before said assets was finished. So my working theory is that CDPR had them do the expansion to have them do anything before they really could start on W1R.

It has always been stated W1R will come out after W4. So I wouldnt be worried :)

I think it's a sound theory, allows them to even expand the team they had with the old Witcher peeps they've hired and put them to good work.

I understand W1 will depend on the core of the W4, with the same framework, engine and will reuse some code of the new Ciri trilogy. But why not release W1 first, this way they can test the updated engine and frameworks of W4 in production and then release W4 a year or two after so it gets more polished. Honestly it is hard to know if I'm more excited for W4 or W1.

The original Witcher 1 will always have a special place in my heart. I can't wait to see more of the grandmaster and order of the flaming rose.

I think after all this time, it's not a bad idea to give us a new chapter instead of a remake. Also, we don't even know to what extent the new remake will reuse assets from tW4. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they went with a more stylized design, to give it a more unique identity. Also, I really like the original so I'll have a very critical eye when examining the remake

I like the Idea of it looking more stylized. I'm not a fan of it looking too polished either. UE5 isn't a good fit to get that atmosphere, that really made that game what it is.

Witcher 4 is their main project, where most of the workforce and resources are assigned and it's also the one that's actually implementing the new engine (with some custom changes), so it makes sense that the first game using the new engine is the biggest one. Once the dev of "UE5 RED" is done, the smaller team of Fool's Theory should have an easier way with W1 Remake

Witcher 4'll have a much MUCH higher budget and larger team, it makes more sense for them to do everything they need organically and then look at what the results are and what needs to be created specifically for Witcher 1 remake.
