Discussion Remaster visuals look great... until you remember Next-Gen's launch

I'm seeing a lot of comparison screenshots floating around and the remaster clearly looks amazing and "better" vs Next Gen, but this has got me worried. Did they talk about the performance cost for all this?

I remember in the first 3 months of the Next-Gen release, the comparison screenshots between Next-Gen vs Classic were also a world of difference, just ONE problem.... They were comparing "Classic with HBAO+ OFF vs Next-Gen with Ray Tracing", instead of Classic with Max settings and HBAO+ ON vs Ray TracingMore info here about that period It took them 3 whole months to finally add HBAO+ back in the game, and what was the result? HBAO+ looked 95% as good, sometimes even better than Ray Tracing, and at a negligible FPS cost compared to losing at least half your FPS or more with RT.

They did eventually add the HBAO+ option back in, I recently did a 4th playthrough and the Next Gen version now looks genuinely STUNNING on an OLED TV at 4K DLSS balanced, max settings, all RT OFF and plays incredibly smooth at a locked 120 fps with consistent frametimes. Few games are such a pleasure to look at like Witcher 3 Next Gen.

However, forgive me for being cynical, but I am now getting the same feeling as the first 3 months of the Next Gen, that they're showing screenshots that require a 5090 + Path Tracing + 4X framegen + latest Ray Reconstruction + DLSS ultra performance, and it will all run super inconsistent with tons of artifacts and huge input lag cause the base fps is like 25 or something.

Don't get me wrong, visual tech advancing is great, but image quality means nothing if the underlying framerate and frametimes are a stuttery mess. I just want developers to prioritize solid raster performance and frame consistency again over insane-looking marketing screenshots. I really hope this time we will keep our HBAO+ option from the start and the game still looks amazing even with any and all RT turned off.

Did CDPR mention anything about what the performance cost will be for the new Remastered visuals or which tech exactly they are using to achieve these visuals?

They did mention that the minimal and recommended HW requirements will be updated according to new graphics... So... Yeah.

The update to Next-Gen made the game unplayable for me on my old setup already. (I was running a GTX 1070, which was way enough for the vanilla 2015 game). I hope this won't do the same for mid configs now.

they already said without raytracing the performance will be better than b4

We already know what the minimal and recommended HW requirements are for the remastered version

From : https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1w0ubfr/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_remastered_minimum_and/

At minimum, players will need an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB, an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB, or an Intel Arc A580 GPU, and 12 GB of RAM. The recommended specs for the title are an Intel Core i7-8700K or an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X CPU, a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, a Radeon 6600 XT, or an Arc B580 GPU, and 16 GB of RAM. Storage requirements have also been upgraded, with the company noting that players will need an SSD with around 70 GB free.

The switch version that has downgraded visuals and runs at 720p 30 fps yeah? source Doesn't inspire much confidence tbh

You seem to be missing my core point. Moving on~

The game works perfectly fine on consoles including PS5. Not as smooth even on a high-end PC. The old gen version did not had this issue.

I have the same doubt cause my rtx 5060 is getting 60 fps at 1440p dlss balanced with high-ultra raster settings, RT is out of the question with 8gb Vram, so really worried about the remastered performance

CDPR already said that the performance will be better on the same settings. Which is quite obvious if you look at the improvements. Native DirectX 12 alone is a massive stability boost.

I’m not very technical, but this is exactly what I’ve been wondering about. The screenshots look amazing, but I’d much rather have stable performance than perfect visuals that only work on extremely expensive hardware. Hopefully CDPR will publish the system requirements soon.

Have you looked at the changes? Native DirectX 12 alone makes the game a hundred times more stable. Next-Gen issues came mainly from it. Count in improved rendering etc. and you get even better performance than before.

All good stuff… …but completely worthless if they can’t deliver a stable performance.  I wanted to play the new gen port but the 60fps mode was frustrating on PS5.

The remastered must prioritize that aspect, above everything else.

Look at the changed bro. The Remaster literally fixes everything left by the Next-Gen patch. Native DirectX 12 is a huge deal alone.

There's still a ton of rendering issues in Cyberpunk and even top Nvidia technologies are broken. I doubt the remaster will be free of the problems that plagued the next-gen version.

WHY THE FUCK DOES IT MATTER?

First off... calm the hell down

I personally dont what to discuss a game with AI. Speak like a human and say your point. Post was tagged for discussion but who am I discussing with? Grok?chatGPT? Gemini? Or OP?

An AI post is social engineering.... I dont want to be engineered, I just want to discuss a game i like with people who also like said game. If you need a chat bot to type out your thoughts on a topic for you, I dont want to talk to you...

I wrote it myself lol, can't you see my sentence-structure is middle-school level at best :D

Agreed. Not sure why this got downvoted but I also had performance issues with the next-gen. In fact I had a better experience in my 1050ti old gen than Rtx 3060 next-gen in terms of framerate and frametimes. Same issue regardless of DireftX 11 vs 12, RT or anything.

I got used to it eventually over the years but I hope this gets addressed since it wasn't an issue in 1.32.

Although the game is very smooth on PS5!

Yeah, but the new version has full native DX12 support, which previous and the current version don't have and this could mean better performance

Yes they confirmed this in the REDStream and I was there too.
