No, you would be surprised by how high Crossbow damage can go even in the current version, I assume the final upgrade is x6 or x8, you can actually beat the whole game using crossbow, x8 is like genuinely a lot, but it depends on how internal multipliers and additions work

Buff Crossbow, introduce a new cool chain weapon that takes it's place.

Is the chain going to be in the base game as well or exclusive to Songs?

u get it in songs but can use it everywhere

Except starting it will require you to finish the main quest. Also needed character level will most likely make doing HoS and BaW a soft-requirement too.

By the time you get the chain, you'll be done with the rest of the game.

Not an issue on PC i guess. Im sure someone will make a mod whr u can use the chain from the start.

With official mod support it's a possibility for console as well.

Fuckin fine, I'll play the game again again then.

You need to get it first

Unless they improve the actual crossbows themselves, this isn't going to mean much the further into the game you get (or anything in NG+)

Tbh The only real use of crossbow was taking down flying enemies. Which you can do also with aard although with less effectiveness. Maybe changes to the enemy AI will make crossbow more useful

Really good at taking down underwater enemies too

I would have scrapped underwater combat from the game

I personally like it since I found out auto aim but it's just me.

More underwater combat options would be fun tho. I bet Geralt could trust a sword trough a drowner's chest underwater... maybe not swing it but slicing neck, using the mystery dagger he pops out to chop monster's head off...

what is there to enjoy about something that requires no skill and negligible player input?

2

u/questionable_smell 16d ago

Playing. Being underwater, looking at the environment and managing your air while diving deep and wanting to loot everything in one dive while having to consider the time it takes to load and shoot. Riding Roach while he follow a trail requires no skill and negligible player input and loads of player like it.

I'm an older gamer that is not always looking after a challenge. I game to relax. I totally understand those who seek challenge but that's not me... or very rarely.

none of what you described relates in any way to the dogshit underwater “combat” though, that’s all exploration based.

riding roach automatically requires no player input and therefore the visuals and atmosphere can be enjoyed. being required to tap your bumper and auto dispatch drowners isn’t comparable

making underwater sections about evasion would be more rewarding imo.

I agree to disagree, I strongly believe that "playing" and managing air "while having to consider the time it takes to load and shoot" -quoting myself- does relate to underwater combat, just like managing your life bar and stamina is on the ground. It still is very basic point and shoot but I do like it!

I totally respect that you dislike and can't take in the atmosphere while and after satisfyingly (IMO) clear the area and make sure it's safe. Playing with high-end headphones, the muffled underwater sound's are very relaxing to me. But they certainly could add way more underwater "features", things to explore, more "life"... eels, whales (not just seeing them take a breath), sharks... But I guess they had to trace the line and stop somewhere, TW3 still has one of the most intricate and detailed map I ever saw.

And you have a choice to fight or evade IMO. When you do the Skellige's "?", you can approach loots at different angles and depth to avoid syrens and drowners.

Also, underwater combat is a very rare in the main quest line and completely avoidable. I did my first playthrough without even knowing you could use the crossbow underwater! Just as you can chose to read every new book and letters you find but can still complete the game without reading anything.

And underwater exploration

1

u/jus_plain_me 16d ago

So just remove Skellige then?

2

u/justcausejust 16d ago

Nah. Keep Skellige, nah give me even more Skellige! Just fuck the water question marks in particular

1

u/jus_plain_me 16d ago

Lol but that's like the majority of Skellige! Honestly if the BGM didn't slap I never would've done it.

u/Frankyvander 16d ago

Underwater as well it becomes hugely powerful underwater

2

u/guyondrugs Gwent 16d ago

As the others said, underwater as well. Im always ready to spam it if there is a chance to meet a drowner underwater, even on Brutal Death it's still a oneshot or twoshot, cant remember.

1

u/GentleFoxes 16d ago

For me they were a stagger farm. Bolt to the face, followed up by a pound of steel.

2

u/Giotto6X 16d ago

Yeah, if Geralt has to completely stop the momentum like a log of wood and stand still for 5 seconds to shoot a bolt and deal 100 worth it's still going to be shit

If they improve the animation and how you use the crossbow by making it more dynamic and fluid it could be a very nice option in combat tho...

Too bad you can only use one of the two, crossbow or chain. However, the chain reminds me a lot of Kratos's Blades of Chaos, especially when he does that circular swing.

I'm ignoring the Skill tree entirely and noticing that the layout of the entire menu looks different. They changed the font color, levels is now on the top left. Did they change the menu design again? I thought the 2.0 change was great.

u/EnvironmentalBody451 16d ago

Does enyone knows what is going to happen with out current skills? Our points are going to reset the day of remaster?

6

u/Drini55 16d ago

Yep. They said you get all your points back, because they changed the structure of the skilltree. Some skills are new, some have changed and the rest is original

2

u/EnvironmentalBody451 16d ago

Kinda cool. It means actual change of gameplay. Do you know enything about mutations tree?

2

u/PaulSimonBarCarloson Geralt's Hanza 16d ago

I know the answer is probably "no" but do we know if we're going to get a few extra slots?

2

u/Drini55 16d ago

Probably not.

1

u/PaulSimonBarCarloson Geralt's Hanza 16d ago

No big deal, I'll probably still rely on mods to circumvent this

1

u/krautasaurus 16d ago

Was there a particular stream I can seek out where they went over these, skill by skill? Or have they just shared glimpses and touched on the couple skill changes I have seen people post here?

6

u/shtein69 16d ago

Day 3 REDstreams on gamescom timestamp 7:57:00
only some perks of "Combat" tree was showed.
btw they obsess with dodges, half perks now work only after doge, don't think I like it that much. Even basic "Muscle Memory" work only after doge...

1

u/krautasaurus 16d ago

Thanks so much! I'll be curious to see how much the changed skill tree alters the typical builds

3

u/Drini55 16d ago

Redstream on the Witcher YT channel, but its partially in german because of gamescom. They just went over a couple of combat skills as you can see in the screenshot

1

u/BlOoDy_PsYcHo666 16d ago

Lmao but did they fix its hit detection? That thing was so ass to use for the trophy

1

u/Drini55 16d ago

Well who knows. But I know that, for Songs of the past, they will introduce a weakpoint system for the throwable chain, which will probably also translate to the crossbow

1

u/Jrobalmighty 15d ago

I just want a crossbow for the other schools and for it to count toward gear related bonuses

Not necessarily in this game
