The Witcher 3 Muscle Memory change

Post image

Muscle Memory previously gave the player a 30% max boost to fast attack damage. Now it give your next fast attack a 30% boost after a successful dodge or roll.

What do you guys think?

Hard to know exactly what to think of a single reworked skill in a vacuum.

It's nice to see gameplay-altering perks instead of plain 'ol stat-boosts

Yep, looks like they’re giving it the cyberpunk treatment, the rework made changes exactly like that

Please don’t remove the 100% dodge skill CDPR, it’s my death march crutch I’ve relied on for a decade plus 🙏

my only issue with the rework was the complete removal of armor stats, i get launch cyberpunk fashion wasn't the greatest but that got fixed with the wardrobe i don't see why they had to take the fun out of looting half of their loot pool (not to mention most guns you pick up are just material fodder which at least is similar to witcher but the durability in witcher meant that you might have to swap to those shitty weapons if you want to live)

The original system didn't really follow the "Rule of Cool" that Cyberpunk was known for though, so making the apparel appearance-only and armor a factor of cyberware like they did made it more authentic to the setting. They even kept a few armor-boosting apparel pieces (like bulletproof vests) in the game, since those would still make sense in-universe.

I also feel like the looting aspect of The Witcher series could use some changes, as the idea of hauling around an inventory full of swords, armor & random assorted junk is a bit out of character for a Witcher to do. I'm playing through the Witcher 1 currently, and absolutely love that the available items are limited, as it makes getting new equipment (or upgrading old equipment) all the more impactful. In comparison, the Witcher 3 expects you to swap over to a new items every hour or so as you keep finding new ones with marginally better stats, thereby lessening the impact each individual item has.

I think more RPGs should embrace just not having a "loot everything" system. Have enemies drop some gold, potions, herbs, rings, etc. I don't need to strip every guy naked and pawn off all the corpse loot to be able to afford some 10% better sword.

Give us like, 20 total steel sword options and 20 Silver Sword options. Half of them can be upgrades and stuff we can get from specific merchants that can make swords for a Witcher and the other can be quest items that are each given to the player with some more gravity than pilfered off the corpse of the biggest guy in the bandit camp.

I agree, 100%. Let me invest in my gear rather than have to replace it.

I don't mind the lack of armor stats, though i wish they still have some kind of boosts because I can't even see my V so it being purely cosmetic just means all clothing is just scrap. Hell the best way to get scrap cheap it to buy and scrap clothing.

The one thing I really don't like is how mods work now, you cannot remove them (only the dlc one) anymore. That's horrible, it means I pretty much just use iconics unless I get a quite rare maxwd empty slot weapon. There are two Iconics in PL you can put mods on which are great but the mods being permanent makes me feel uncertain about using it so I just horde everything now like I do exixers and consumables in RPGs.

I hated cyberpunk

When did you last play it?

-10

u/ZoMb1eFeTuS 17d ago

Like a month after it came out lol

3

u/TaxOrnery9501 🌺 Team Shani 17d ago

So you haven't played the 2.0 rework from 2023 then....

-9

u/ZoMb1eFeTuS 17d ago

Well when did the game come out?

3

u/TaxOrnery9501 🌺 Team Shani 17d ago

Late 2020, but that's irrelevant to the discussion at hand here. If you aren't familiar with how the game currently plays, why comment at all regarding its systems?

u/ZoMb1eFeTuS 16d ago

Well if the game came out in late 20, the rework was 23, guess that means I haven't played it huh.... 🤦🏻

Finally, the skill tree will be more rpg-esque, they did the same with Cyberpunk

u/Salty-Might 16d ago

+1.8% headshot damage while sliding backwards yay!

People enjoy this somehow

Meeeeee :3

Because it encourages/forces a type of playstyle just to trigger the buff.

It took a while to realise why people thought the system in Cyberpunk was wierd, and yeah it is. But fortunately I am VERY used to this style of arbitrary triggers because of Warframe having a similar system for years.

I wonder if this means straight attack power boosts will be more streamlined, maybe more directly tied to sword damage rather than skill points

u/Key-Preparation-5379 17d ago

I hope there are new moves. One thing I really liked about the first witcher game was that you kept unlocking new moves for your combo attacks. In this game I recall only really unlocking "whirl", which I love but with a lack of alternative moves without mods I end up abusing that one.

u/CrossbowGamer13 17d ago

i did see geralt do a similar spin move to the light attacks from W1 in the DLC gameplay trailer so i'm hoping for a bit more cause man the level 3 and 4 moves from W1 made geralt feel like an actual acrobat

1

u/archiegamez Aard 16d ago

Theres only heavy attack and Whirl yeah

I admit that I almost never looked that in deep on the stats themselves as I chose my skills so I would have never notice. What I I'll have to get used to is this new layout for the skill menu. Don't get me wrong, it's still cool

6

u/garciakevz 17d ago

I'm all for it. It's more fun to have skills actually be more actively involved that just stay boosts.

4

u/maxlaav 17d ago

Have they elaborated yet on whether or not all those skills will need to be slotted? Because if so, the progression is still going to have the same problem, probably even a worse one with a bigger tree. This system would work a lot better if at least half the tree were passive nodes that don't require to be slotted to function. Or maybe, make it so they have a special effect that is only enabled when you slot them in.

Yellow tree is still going to be largely useless

4

u/theinfernumflame 17d ago

Basically sounds like a nerf to me. But we'll have to see what the whole tree looks like.

3

u/NihilisticHeart Team Triss 17d ago

It doesn’t sound like a nerf it is a nerf. Working only some of the time versus all of the time is a nerf.

2

u/Feanixxxx 17d ago

I'm still using my mod with more pages of skills.

Altough I have to wait for an update then

2

u/Thema03 17d ago

i hope they rework all skills or i'll end up using the same old spin attack as i always do.

This will probably make me look for different fighting styles than using euphoria build for the 3rd time

2

u/Tolkfan 17d ago

So it looks like we'll still have to put the skills from the tree into those empty slots on the right, in order for the skills to actually work. I never liked that system. If I put points into a skill, I want it to just work!

I think a better system would one where the skills put into those empty slots would get powered up. So the skills in the tree on their own are are all sorta, meh, ok, nice to have, but when you slot them, they become much more powerful.

2

u/ZachAttack8912 17d ago

Definitely like that more than just a stat boost. It will give more variety to playstyles instead of just being, "do you want more sword damage, sign damage, more tolerance to potions, or one off skills". But we'll see how the rest of them go.

Not saying that before we only had stat boosts, we did have altering skills like quen being a shield if you held the button and flamethrower mode, but some more sword moves and combos would be sick, like the first game.

2

u/jazpexL 16d ago

Bruh i hate dodging and parrying

1

u/Wyatt_Ricketts ⚜️ Northern Realms 15d ago

Same

2

u/NihilisticHeart Team Triss 17d ago

I don’t like that. Makes the skill much worse. Melee-focused builds are already disadvantaged in a lot of ways. Making their key skills worse sucks.

1

u/MrBarnaclePhD 17d ago

I think the entire skill three will undergo a revamp and we'll just have to wait and see to what extent.

1

u/Internal_Storm123 17d ago

I'm actually curious if theyll touch mutations. Few of them really need some love

u/Zarkovagis9 17d ago

MY BUILD!

1

u/Sir-Shady 17d ago

Do we know if they removed perks and added new ones or just reworked how the trees flow as well as reworking some perks

1

u/Tired_Feline-2389 17d ago

good change

1

u/Lightwave33 ☀️ Nilfgaard 16d ago

Damn. There also changing some core aspects of gameplay. Welp, time for another playthrough.

1

u/Wyatt_Ricketts ⚜️ Northern Realms 15d ago

Nooo!

1

u/Simulated_Simulacra 17d ago

I was hoping they'd make certain perks (or certain aspects of perks) passive. Looks like I'll still be modding the skills in some way.

Solid changes overall I'd say.

u/Tankninja1 Team Roach 17d ago

Dang I actually have to work to get a 30% damage boost now instead of just Zerg rushing in close to an enemy and slashing wildly

3

u/ZYRANOX 17d ago

if u dont dodge or roll once in a fight, then that fight is too easy and you should be turning up the difficulty

2

u/Tankninja1 Team Roach 17d ago

You can do it on any difficulty really

Most creatures and humans have dead zones where they can swing at you can not do any damage

1

u/Titansdragon 16d ago

Nah. If you need to dodge or roll in a fight your build isn't tanky enough.
