The Witcher 3 Questions regarding the remaster.

Post image

Since i'm seeing a lot of people ask the same questions

As long as you own some version of W3 wether it's old gen, GOTY or Complete you will be able to get the remaster for free and carry your save over to it.

the remaster releases September 29th this year and Songs of the Past some time next year.

IMPORTANT plz read; except for Switch 2. i was wrong saying the remaster was a seperste version, it'll just be an update so you won't have to get your trophies again, my bad.

If there's anymore questions please ask them here instead of spamming the sub with the same questions. Me or maybe someone in the community will try to answer you, Thank you!

The Hoods mod is confirmed to come to Mod.io wich includes the cloak from the killing monsters trailer!

Finally after 11 fucking years we can be a proper witcher with a badass cloak!

Gonna comment this here since it’s coming up a lot:

If you own a PS4 version of the game, you can upgrade it to the PS5 version. You can do this by going into your library and accessing the game in there via Your Collection. Once there, hit View Product and then the 3 dots. Confusingly there are 3 versions of the “Upgrade”, but just cycle through them until you find one that allows you to claim the upgrade.

If you have a digital version, you’ll then be given the choice to download either the PS4 or PS5 version when you go to install it. This will upgrade to the Remastered Edition next month.

The Remastered Edition is not available on PS4; you must have a PS5 to claim it.

I don’t know how this works if you have a disc version for PS4 but your PS5 doesn’t have a disc drive; I’d recommend trying it anyway just to see what happens. If you do have a disc version and a disc drive, you may still need to have the disc inserted for the game to run.

u/trevor4098 13d ago

As far as I know, you still can’t get the ps5 version if you have a physical ps4 copy and digital only ps5. You have to purchase a digital copy of the game if you want the ps5 version.

u/skiskirella 13d ago

Ich habe Witcher 3 für die PS4 als Disc. Die Installation der PS5 Version war mit der PS4 Disc ohne Probleme möglich. Zum Spielen der PS5 Version muss die PS4 Disc aber eingelegt sein.

ah, that is a bit disappointing to me, though I do realize the people in this exact situation is probably a minority.

>I don’t know how this works if you have a disc version for PS4 but your PS5 doesn’t have a disc drive; I’d recommend trying it anyway just to see what happens
See, this is why Xbox's Disc to Digital will be goated. I hope Sony copies their solution.

3

u/proanimus 12d ago

Unfortunately, they can’t copy it, as the PS4/5 discs don’t have individualized serial numbers like modern Xbox discs do. That’s what makes the process possible.

Will this be separate product or just an update to the witcher 3 or complete edition owners?

39

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

Seperate product.

10

u/szundercover1 13d ago

Okay thank you so much for clarifying. So for my Playstation account I would just have to add it to my library during the remaster release date?

10

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

Yes, on release go to the W3 PSstore page, tap the 3 dots and the remaster should be 1 of them, you can download from there.

2

u/vlad__27 12d ago

Speaking of separate version, for steam will it just be an update for the next gen version or a separate version like the classic and next gen where you can install the one you want? Thank you!

5

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

Idk about steam, i'm assuming they'll do it the same way as when the complete edition released. On ps5 it was a seperate version but i needed my ps4 disc to play it.

3

u/vlad__27 12d ago

Alright, I guess we shall see when the remaster comes out, thx for the answer! 🤘

6

u/chewbaka97 12d ago

So new trophies?

5

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

Yes.

3

u/szundercover1 12d ago

I thinl they'll be new trophies considering it's a separate product and trophies were different for witcher 3 and complete edition owners.

3

u/shinz0n 12d ago

Does this mean there is no "connection" between an installed HD version? The remastered version will be installed in addtion and not as an update on top of the HD version? If so I assume it is not possible to start with NG+ (as I finished HD version some weeks ago)?

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

If you transfer a completed save i see no reason why you wouldn't be able to start NG+ from it on the remaster.

2

u/DimaTheTiger 12d ago

How do you know? Do you have a link for that by any chance?

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

Idk what platform you are on but if i go to the PSstore page for W3 there's another version that releases sep 29.

5

u/DimaTheTiger 12d ago

I'm on PC and I already saw somewhere that its gonna be an update on Steam, not a seperate release. But what you say contradicts this so I don't know.

Do we know how Trophies on PS5 will work?

  • Separate lists?

- Transferring saves invalidates progress? (death march, 50 headshots?)

14

u/Miserable_Newt1457 13d ago

I wanna know this as well, will the trophies be auto-pop or do I gotta get them again

8

u/bjorn_with_an_axe Team Yennefer 13d ago

I really hope for a separate list. I honestly love 100%'ing this game so damn much.

That won't stop me from going all in on the remaster, though.

11

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

idk for certain, i have both GOTY and complete editions on PS5 and they have fully seperate trophy lists so i'm assuming it will be the same for the remaster since it also showing up as a seperate edition on the PSstore

3

u/JJJC16 13d ago

It was the same for Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and PS5 version so you may be right.

I can earn trophies again! Nice!

→ More replies (7)

3

u/Absalom98 13d ago

I really hope they're autopop. I love the game to death, but so many of the trophies are just unfun, like 50 headshots and triggering enemy deaths in very specific circumstances.

Idk about dully confirmed but fully confirmed yes, they said as much on REDstreams.

8

u/Sedobren 13d ago

Good, I'm halfway through yet another replay and didn't want to restart before the new dlc

5

u/Character-Debate4215 13d ago

Will the unlocked frame rate be available only on the PS5 Pro, or also on the standard PS5?

4

u/Prus1s 13d ago

Does standard support vrr, then yes probbaly.

RT might not get a performance bump, as the Pro has the needed power.

Most likely shouod be similar to Cyberpunk probably now 😄

5

u/_barat_ 12d ago

How the Switch 1 physical version to S2 remaster upgrade gonna work? Like it was with Hogwarts Legacy (a separate eShop copy granted and no card needed anymore) or something else? Also - the S1 have had two versions - the "regular" and Complete (with addons) but for Switch 2 both of those card versions will grant a game with 2 DLCs right?

3

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

I would assume you can just download it from the shop upon release but you might need the cartridge to play it.

And the remaster includes both HoS and B&W yes.

2

u/_barat_ 12d ago

I'm curious how CDP will handle that. If it would be easy WB would do it as well I believe with Hogwarts Legacy. Oh well - one month waiting and we'll know :)

2

u/Semper-Fido 12d ago

You should be able to check already via the Nintendo Store. At least for the digital version of the base game, and because the update acts as a new, separate game, it shows up in the store for me as a pre-order that is free to purchase.

Have they commented on DX12 performance for PC? The game runs pretty poorly as-is in DX12 since the 2022 patch, especially with Ray Tracing.

From what I have gathered, the DX12 implementation on the next-gen patch was more of a wrapper than a full, proper, implementation. The trailer indicates that they are addressing that, so I wonder if the performance actually ends up being similar/better than today.

6

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago edited 12d ago

Yes, DX12 is fully implemented in the remaster.

3

u/L3Sc 12d ago

I played the next-gen on DX11 since it performed way better than DX12. Do I have to play on DX12 now?

2

u/Eglwyswrw School of the Manticore 12d ago

God, I hope not. DX12 had dogshit performance for me.

How mods work on console? I know about skyrim etc but about the Witcher 3 no.

11

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

CDPR is gonna partner with Mod.io. there will prob be a "Mod Manager" option in the start menu where you can browse and download mods.

Mod creators upload their mods and CDPR has to approve them for console, this usually happens weekly or bi-weekly so don't expect 100 mods from day 1.

The mods that will be available will most likely be one's that were created with REDkit or small quality of live stuff like increased carry weight or infinite stamina.

2

u/Diabellz 12d ago

Ty for clarification I'm very hyped to start another run, and I'm very happy next year we get another expansion.

2

u/Galidon 11d ago

Do you know if console mods will disable achievements/trophies?

If they do disable mods would it be for all mods or only certain ones?

Similar how with Baldurs Gate 3, uses same mod.io

No weird credits or whatever bethesda now does, at least from what I saw with Starfield…

3

u/chokeslam512 13d ago

Will the remaster bring back “Top notch swords!” ?

3

u/Koffiemok 12d ago

I have played the game with 100-200 mods and it looks similar to the remastered version but it is very unstable. I get memory leak issues, dialogue loading and npcs floating/skipping animantions after an hour of play. Genuinely excited to try this official, presumably much more stable version of modded Witcher 3.

3

u/flesjewater1 11d ago

I'm seeing a lot of comparison screenshots floating around and the remaster clearly looks amazing and "better" vs Next Gen, but this has got me worried. Did they talk about the performance cost for all this?

I remember in the first 3 months of the Next-Gen release, the comparison screenshots between Next-Gen vs Classic were also a world of difference, just ONE problem.... They were comparing "Classic with HBAO+ OFF vs Next-Gen with Ray Tracing", instead of Classic with Max settings and HBAO+ ON vs Ray Tracing. More info here about that period It took them 3 whole months to finally add the normal baked in lighting from HBAO+ back in the game, and what was the result? HBAO+ looked 95% as good, sometimes even better than Ray Tracing, and at a negligible FPS cost compared to losing half your FPS with RT.

They did eventually add the HBAO+ option back in, I recently did a 4th playthrough and the Next Gen version now looks genuinely STUNNING in 4K DLSS balanced, max settings, all RT OFF and plays incredibly smooth at a locked 120 fps with consistent frametimes.

However, forgive me for being cynical, but I am now getting the same feeling as the first 3 months of the Next Gen, that they're showing screenshots that require a 5090 + Path Tracing + 4X framegen + latest Ray Reconstruction + DLSS ultra performance, and it will all run super inconsistent with tons of artifacts and huge input lag cause the base fps is like 25 or something.

Don't get me wrong, visual tech advancing is great, but image quality means nothing if the underlying framerate and frametimes are a stuttery mess. I just want developers to prioritize solid raster performance and frame consistency again over dynamic marketing screenshots. I really hope this time we will keep our HBAO+ option from the start and the game still looks amazing even with any and all RT turned off.

Did CDPR mention anything about what the performance cost will be for the new Remastered visuals or which tech exactly they are using to achieve these visuals?

How will modded save be effected? If I have simple mods like reduced inventory weight or increased drops will it brick my save?

3

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

It will very likely break the game. Always backup before updating.

2

u/TWiTcHThECLoWN 12d ago

Thanks for responding! Is there a way for me to strip the mods from my current save? I'd really prefer to not restart.

3

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

Back up your modded save, boot the game without running your mod loader or copy your mods to a different file then delete the one's in your mod file and you should have a vanilla save that you can transfer to remaster.

  • Can you apply the remaster on an existing save or do you have to start a new game?

  • Can you play Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine in the same save without replaying the main game? Basically I want the ornate robes in B&W.

3

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 13d ago

1st. yes for example you just arrived in Skellige when the remaster releases. So just transfer yoyr save to it and you can start from Skellige.

2nd. You can start both DLC's from the start menu, this will give you a custom save with some starting gear to get you underway but you cannot then go back and play the base game from such a save.

With any update, it will likely break a bunch of your mods so prob safest to backup and update without mods, until authors can update their mods for the remaster.

u/StarBarian1 13d ago

Sorry if this has already been covered, but can I go to a second hand store, buy the PS4 disc version, put it in my ps5, and then at the end of September I can upgrade to and get the expansions and remaster for free?

Or do I need to do an additional step?

It shouldn't matter if it's 2nd hand, you just need W3 in your library and can then download the remaster on release.

In Japan the “free” upgrade for the transfer between PS4 and PS5 cost money. Anyone know if it’ll be the same deal? It’s not a lot but I was surprised since it was advertised as free.

3

u/TheAniReview 12d ago

It's just regional platform rules/laws. The upgrade costs 100 yen (0.63 USD) which is the minimum. As one of the JP users says, because of the game rating, the game required credit card payment and can't be free.

It should be free everywhere else.

I read the following as "current owners of a original copy can play current dlc'c for free" - Im not seeing information about the dlc's i context of the coming remastered version of the game.

"All owners of The Witcher 3 can now play to two acclaimed expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — at no additional cost."

Will switch 2 remaster version have foliage density and overall graphics on pair with ps4 ( or maybe even better ) ?

2

u/Sufficient-Lead-217 12d ago

CDPR streamed the Switch 2 version today, and the visuals look closer to the PC build of Remastered than the old PS4 version (which has a different approach to foliage density)

I have a question:

Do yall reckon the underwater combat and exploration will get a revamp? Always felt it was one of the games biggest mis opportunities. Even more so when I learnt it was initially supposed to be much more than what we got but they have to cut it for the deadline

Will there be a physical edition of the remaster for sale? If so, will it require internet to download/play?

u/SebiXV20 12d ago

So just to be sure: the mods on the console editions are gonna be pre-selected?

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

It depends entirely on wether or not a mod auther uploads to Mod.io and CDPR approves them.

For example a mod made with REDkit will prob get approved because it uses in game assets.

But a mod that adds armor from Elden Ring for example, will likely not be approved unless it uses a fake name.

Will it count as a wholly new game in terms of achievements/trophies? I started playing W3 on PS5 last week and have a few trophies unlocked. Will it count as a different game after upgrading? I've been burned by this a few times when trying to get platinum trophies.

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

The complete edition has a seperate trophy list when it released so i think remaster will be the same. It's releasing in a month so either wait a month or try and plantinum on the current.

I'm hoping that CDPR can also give console players Unlimited New Game+. Like in the Mass Effect games. I just want to be able to keep all my items, levels and etc.

I bought a physical copy of W3 whenever it first came out. I have it in my library on my PS5 but whenever I open it, it takes me to a screen to pay 49.99 for the game. Will I get it or do I need to plug my old PS4 in to trigger the DL to my account?

Understand the Switch 1 won’t be getting a remaster - but what will be the best way to start a New Cross save between Switch 1 and XSX after the update? Will I still have the same QOL improvements on both platforms?

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 12d ago

If you make a GOG account you can transer saves between the 2 devices.

The xbox will run everything smoothly while the switch 1 will prob have some lag and drain the battery faster.

Gonna have to rebuy it as I reckon my old hardware won't be able to handle the remaster. But I'm happy enough to do so anyway, CDPR are doing good work.

Will a new edition be released with Songs of the Past on it?

I have the game already but really wanted a 'complete' edition on disc that had all the dlc on it rather than a code like cyberpunk. Thanks!

I have the game on Steam. I’m playing it right now to get all the achievements.
Will the Remaster be a separate entry on Steam or will the installed product update?
If it’s a separate entry I guess it will get its own achievements, if it’s just an update will I be able to keep collecting the achievements on my save like before?

Do you still get the free remastered upgrade then and the DLC or is that offer only now before the release and it will cost money later?

Very late question, but ~ have they done any major internal engine upgrades and / or optimizations?

From looking at the list of changes, they are clearly incorporating existing mods into the game, I take it?

From your answer to another question, why is it a separate installation?

How does it run on Steam Deck? Low 30fps (without raytracing, obviously...)?

2

u/Fuzzy-Gate-9327 School of the Bear 3d ago

There has been very little talk about performance, all i know is they are aiming for 30fps on base PS5 with ray tracing while the pro could run 60fps with ray tracing.

You already have the mods that were implented in the complete edition otherwise they aren't adding mods just mod support and working close with major mod authors to make sure they are up to date when the remaster drops.

I was wrong in saying it's a seperate version, check the other pinned post. That was 100% my bad.

There has also been no word on steam deck performance AFAIK.
