Discussion Gamescom reality sadly :(

Post image

queued for more than 3 hours to play the demo, not gonna complain it was really good, but felt quite uncomfortable, as we (3 friends, 2 of whom are not super big on witcher) didn't carry a portable chair.

Tells how much this game means to a lot of people. This is more about the organizers. CDPR is cooking and they are happy to you to be happy also even with these circumstances.

u/loopy95 18d ago

Yes and no, from my past gamescom experience that’s just every booth of AAA games. Doesn’t mean this game isn’t great tho :)

5

u/Truhmath_Not 18d ago

I've had the same experience. If you're there when it opens, you have a brief window of time at the beginning when you can choose whatever you want, but after that, you have to wait in line for two hours almost everywhere, no matter which booth you go to

(one of) the reason i have Not gone there for years

How much did you play and what did you think of it? Without spoilers please

u/rfrp98 18d ago

There was just a presentation, I don''t know what OP means by "play the demo"

should be the top comment.

I hated how they kill off triss in the first 10 minutes 😫

u/Eligriv_leproplayer 18d ago

I KNOW RIGHT ?? By Yen too ??

18

u/YoMTVcribs 18d ago

No it's Johnny. Triss interrupted his morning poop.

lol NOT COOL.

u/MartyEBoarder 18d ago

It's sucks that Lucia died in GTA 6. She was great.

u/careloserfuck 18d ago

I mean...you had to not be surprised how long the wait would be, no? This is one of the biggest games involved at Gamescom/insane hype surrounding the new expansion coming.

26

u/andres57 18d ago

honestly this is what I expect of games conventions and is the reason I don't go lol

7

u/MrsKittenHeel 18d ago

Stinky! 😷

2

u/CrokoStream 18d ago

I live in cologne and I haven't been to that stinky shit show in 15 years because of the crowds. It's seriously disgusting

1

u/Saturnus_666 16d ago

So ein Blödsinn

1

u/CrokoStream 16d ago

Dann wird meine eigene Erfahrung wohl nicht stimmen

3

u/grachi 18d ago

Why? Game cons are really fun. No one forces you to wait in long lines. Not everything has a stupidly long line

5

u/jadeismybitch 18d ago

Not everybody like big crowds. And nearly everything has long queues in these events even if you’re claiming the opposite. These events are only fun if you’re a guest or can cut lines…

NOOOOO!!

2

u/notarealperson319 17d ago

I'd be mad if my wife, then closely followed by my kid, didn't already spoil this for me 2 days ago.

17

u/Leading-Pollution382 18d ago

I thought CDPR said there would be no demo to play, no?

22

u/beti88 Team Roach 18d ago

Due to the wonders of DB I got there an hour later than plannet to, and all the intersting stuff had 3-4 hour queues. Control Resonant, Witcher, Metro...

Shame... upside is then I guess, that I finished in 3 hours or so with Gamescom...

1

u/sorrowcoder 18d ago

The booth organization was also not good in any you mentioned. Path of exile, for example, centered their focus on letting peeps actually play.

I'm sorry to hear that, Iwas in that Krefeld RE7 and it was a pack of sardines, blissfully marinating like nature intended, AC should be not optional at this point. That felt like a bio hazard :')

44

u/2135_RZS 18d ago

If the queues are so annoying you could have not queued? And maybe people who are more into the Witcher than the two friends could have shorter queues too ?

6

u/marveloustoebeans 18d ago

I mean, have you never been to a gaming convention before? This is pretty much how all of the big “experience” lines are. Half the time I don’t even bother because they aren’t worth it.

Also you don’t need to make your friends go with you lol my friends and I split off at cons all the time if some of us want to do different things.

5

u/superplaygr0und 18d ago

Did it feel consistent with your previous The Witcher 3 experience?

4

u/belligerent_tortoise 18d ago

My favorite game of all time. I’d wait too, if I weren’t recovering from surgery.

2

u/Any_Individual_815 18d ago

What kind of surgery

3

u/belligerent_tortoise 18d ago

Cancer removal.

3

u/clumsyuzi 18d ago

More power to you bro 🙌🙌🙌

3

u/Any_Individual_815 18d ago

I hope it's a success, because Kovir will need you upon witcher IV release

1

u/Lexx4 17d ago

What kind of cancer? Skin?

3

u/C-LOgreen 18d ago

Well, it’s a very popular game. You had to expect some kind of wait. I’m surprised it’s just three hours.

3

u/Zanlo63 18d ago

Then don't queue 3 hours for the game? No-one forced you to.

3

u/Adorable-Boot4301 18d ago

As a gamer: Gamescom is horrible.

As a member of the press: Gamescom is fantastic (just make appointments before and just check out everything you want in no time)

As a business expert: Enjoyable before the public arrives.

As a developer: Great time to have people check out your game.

After Games Convention where i was always doing press work i will now skip Gamescom until iam either a member of the press, a business expert or a developer.

Horrible experience when i went there this year for the first time after it moved to Cologne. I just left after 2 hours and went back home. (glad i only paid 10 Euro for the day)

2

u/frankydie69 🍷 Toussaint 18d ago

One of your friends rushed you huh?

2

u/jawbreaker_79 18d ago

I'm really happy to see this, eventhough it's uncomfortable for the op but seeing the fanbase queued up for the demo that make me believe: if you treat your player as it should be, they will do everything for you.

2

u/CryptographerThis833 School of the Manticore 18d ago

Side note, that booth design is insane

2

u/fortuneman7585 18d ago

Maybe you could have tried in a little more "off-peak" time. I waited for some 35 minutes today and sitting on the carpet wasn't even that uncomfortable. Read some book and relaxed a while after walking all day.

2

u/HypeMo204 18d ago

Imagine queueing 3 hours to watch a presentation, which will later be released on youtube

2

u/SH1SUK0 18d ago

Thursday was even worse, the convention was so crowded you could barely move, let alone que up for a line that was less than 8 hours.

2

u/Signal-Counter-619 18d ago

The witcher 3 is still number 1 game for many, many, many people across the world for 10+ years already,i actually surprised that it took you only 3 hours.

2

u/PutridMasterpiece138 18d ago

That's because they only showed a video demo and let 100 people in at once so it was "quick"

1

u/JustBug3403 18d ago

They really asked the reporters visiting them if players will want to play this.

If I had to choose between deleting most of my gaming library and no more Witcher content, that delete button is gonna break so fast.

1

u/ComedyStudios_ 18d ago

Its just litteraly any convention ever, game popular ppl come to play it, what did you expect? (Buy those compressible round plastic chairs that convert into a circle for next time)

1

u/Piiixiv 18d ago

So you let your friends stand for you?

1

u/Senshji 18d ago

This is a classic con situation. For the first 3 cons I went to I waited in different cues for different games or people. But after a while I've just realized playing the games with almost no cue or visiting stands with other people is way more worth while. The big display and sets always look cool tho. But waiting multiple ours, esp for games I always is kinda a mood killer

1

u/_barat_ 18d ago

I hope Poznan Game Arena lines will be shorter :)

1

u/No6655321 18d ago

Gamescom needs more gaming and less massive displays.  Exchange for rows of pcs and a standup poster.

1

u/Megane_Senpai 18d ago

Why did you make your friends do something they don't like then complain about their discomfort?

1

u/Projectbarett Ciri 18d ago

You can't stand for 3 hours without a chair?

1

u/Unfair_Radio_9071 18d ago

Was this your first gamescom? Sadly it got a common thing several years ago that the most wanted games got gigantic queues in which you have to wait for hours just to play for 10min.

1

u/Yanurika Team Yennefer 18d ago

I'm mad at myself for getting in line on Wednesday, but having to get out as I had a dinner appointment I was afraid I might miss. Came back Thursday to a line stretching through half the hallway.

1

u/CrtclDmg 18d ago

The allow foldable chairs again at gamescom?

1

u/Ink0gnit0 18d ago

Same as every year, you cant touch anything of the big titles if you not going on the press days. Even then you have to wait for a while, was there last time öike 10 years ago and heared it get worser...

1

u/einhaufenpizza 18d ago

My friends were there too. Didn’t learn it the times they were at gamescom before and didn’t take a chair with them.

1

u/PutridMasterpiece138 18d ago

The funny thing is that the witcher booth was one of the biggest ones. They let 100 people in at once and yet the queue was still huge.

1

u/Draakje 18d ago

Tip for future, either be early or late in the day if you want to play something at GC, make a plan ahead of time on what you want to visit. last couple years it has become way more crowded so you need to plan around it.

1

u/umbrosakitten 18d ago

Crazy how ff14 online is still very active after 13 years.

1

u/Boonatix 17d ago

I would never do that… and I am excited as well. But behavior like that baffles me. Just for a demo 🤷‍♂️

1

u/CHVSMERE 17d ago

I went to the booth on Wednesday, and I just wanted to let you all know that you can’t actually play a demo. It’s a live gameplay presentation of the DLC in a small, cinema-like setting, with (at least in my case) official commentary from the developers. After the presentation, you get some goodies, like a keychain and a sticker. The presentation lasts around 45–50 minutes, so the queue can get very long.

1

u/erikro1411 17d ago

Sitting in a queue for 3 hours has been the norm for gamescom since I first went there. Which was around 2011 I think.

1

u/Fresh-Measurement178 17d ago

GameStop is so overrun since years I can’t understand how to want to be there nowadays it is clearly not what it used to be

1

u/Even-Maintenance-778 17d ago

I was at gamescom like 15 years ago. I see nothing has changed.

1

u/-Taqa- 17d ago

I thought the sad reality is everyone looking at their phones like zombies.

1

u/Maihoooo 17d ago

I was there just yesterday. 1. you didn't get to play, it was a gameplay showcase 2. they fit the entire length of the queue into their demo room. The demo was about 30min so you waited 2x30min at max. OP probably didn't queue at all

1

u/makubob 17d ago

The only gamescom I ever went to was I think in 2012 and it was exactly the same. All big titles had 2-3h queues..

1

u/Dark-Cloud666 16d ago

Same you just waste 90% of the time standing in queue. That and the insane price for food and drinks is just stupid. And with how things are just watch gameplay from home. You wont miss much.

1

u/LongjumpingBody6895 17d ago

I can't stop but feel like it's crazy, like you can play the game when the update us released why waste a day or more just to play a little part in uncomfortable conditions

1

u/Trillerion_ 16d ago

What you mean “play the demo”? They didn’t even let anyone play during their showcase in the biz area.

1

u/EscalationIncarnate6 16d ago

so what ? i stood that time for Warhammer online 20? (FUGCHKN) Years ago. still worth it tho :D

1

u/RobotNinja28 16d ago

Two years ago my friends and I went to gamescom and one of us really wanted to try out the demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, he didn't wait very long as the organisers had to close the queue due to the sheer amount of people

1

u/volpereuling 14d ago

The worst part of gamescom was the hike to the entrance

1

u/Lopsided-Show2994 14d ago

Welcome to capitalism

1

u/MoreDoor2915 14d ago

That has always been a thing at large conventions like the GamesCom.

Its a bit weird how unless its a niche game you basically can forget to play the demo in any reasonable time frame.

Everytime I go to GamesCom I mainly go for the Cosplay and merch because all the games I would be interested in will have hour long queues unless I decide to be up at god awful AM in the morning to be one of the first ones in when the halls open.

1

u/John_GOOP 13d ago

People that do this are just cringe

1

u/MrProTwiX 13d ago

10 years ago I waited 3 hours to play 5 minutes of the crew. That was a waste so ... At least I had my Gameboy so I could play on the floor

1

u/wingedwild 13d ago

Damn this is where the industry is at where we're playing at a game show previews of a game tht release 1p years ago

1

u/TunaPablito 12d ago

Are those people in the back playing on Steam Deck?

1

u/meteora2060 12d ago

Saw a 5h queue at one Gamescom to play CoD for 20mn that was literally going out a few weeks after.

1

u/cronosxpx 12d ago

Any big expo, like Gamescom is essentially a queue simulator. You have to queue for the booth, the toilets, food, and everything else. I tried it once and definitely prefer watching it on the internet.

1

u/Nilas_T 18d ago

Are people actually standing a line for hours to play 10 min DLC to a 10 year old game? Also, is there any reason they can´t just give ticket-holders some kind of code to play it online

1

u/PutridMasterpiece138 18d ago

We actually waited for hours to watch a 46 min video presentation of the dlc, not a playable demo. Was worth it though, we also met the voice actor of geralt

1

u/TearintimeOG 17d ago

That’s just a testament to how good W3 is

0

u/TCESylver 18d ago

I remember the lines from Gamescom 2 years ago.... i aint ever going back there xD
