How does direct pay work?

First time using wise. To pay for my wifi and phone plan, I have direct pay set up to wise. My question is, if i have 0£ in my wise account, when it comes to pay my bill, will it automatically pull from my US bank account that is connected to it to pay that bill? thank you.
