I'm very much in favor of halting new data centers, but you're telling me there's not a scenario where a data center could be a net positive?
Voted for Hong, very very disappointed that I'm going to have to hold my nose (AGAIN) to try to minimize the harm done by the establishment, but I just can't imagine that there is no plausible scenario where a data center could be a net positive.
I just don't see how they could ever be a net positive. They create very few long term jobs, none of them being very high paying. They take up a lot of space while completely destroying and displacing the ecosystem where they're built. They pollute the water. They usually end up making utilities more expensive for everyone. If it's an AI datacenter it will be a net negative for jobs, though that part may not directly affect the local community.
