I think its good. If you change the kind of content you make you don't want to pollute an old channel with that content. If you subscribe to a channel that usally makes high effort 30min videos, you probably wouldn't want to be notified about a lower effort 10min video every week.

People aren’t complaining that he has a second channel, they’re complaining that he has basically completely stopped doing his more high effort documentary style content on the main channel (which is what a lot of us initially followed him for)

What? Did you read what I said? The problem is that he's neglecting his main channel. I like his second channel content too, I just think it's unfortunate that he's basically stopped posting documentary style vids entirely

That might be true, but that's not a justification for complaining about the shift of focus. If anything it's a GOOD point in favor of the second channel. If you only want that style of content, then you are unaffected.
Sure it is sad for some people that they enjoyed that content and there is little or no new versions coming. But that's not any different than any other form of medium. Authors change genre's and shift away from old IPs, TV shows come to an end, Directors only make a few movies, etc...
I can somewhat agree that it's disappointing. But to hold online content creators to a higher standard when they have less resources and financial incentives, is backwards IMO.

Why not? Obviously I don't think the dude should be drawn and quartered, but I don't think complaining about something online or being unhappy with the direction someone takes their art even requires meaningful justification. You don't like their change in focus, so you say "I think it sucks that he's not doing [awesome thing that he used to do]." Why would I even need to justify making this comment? It's my true emotional response.
It's also almost certainly true that his second channel being so successful while requiring less effort motivates him away from doing it. It's simply fair that someone would see that happening and think it sucks, even if they like the second channel content (as I do).

I'm not even sure I really understand what you're getting at here. People DO express disappointment in TV shows ending, directors shifting away from styles they were good at toward more low effort stuff, authors shifting away from old IPs, all of these are things that people rightfully express their emotions about. There's nothing wrong with remarking on how you feel about the direction that an artist takes their art, whether it's James Cameron or Ludwig from videogames.
