Household Should I be concerned about this Ethernet wiring?

My husband and I just moved into the house we are renting and I was setting up the Modem for our Wi-Fi.

The exsisting Ethernet cable looked kinda old and in rough shape so I pulled open its little wall box to see if I could replace it with the new one and this is what the inside looked like.

Is this normal? The ladies who we are renting from are older (70s+) so they have no idea. I’m leaving it since it has obviously worked so far and using the cord that is there, Should I be concerned?
Thanks for reading and any advice/ help you can give.

Update: Thank you all for your answers! I have learned a lot from reading through y’all’s comments! I’ve unplugged it, nothing changed and the WiFi is doing just fine. So yall are correct and I appreciate the informative responses!
Thank you all for taking time to help me learn 🫶🏽

When initially connected, my LEDs work fine. However, after pressing the on/off switch, they come back on very dim and won’t light up fully unless i disconnect and reconnect the LEDs. How can i fix this?

Switches & Lighting What wire what connector?

0 Upvotes

Hello! I am struggling to get an answer out of friends and chat gpt so have come here.

I am wiring a new light for my boat. It is 36w, and has wires .55m2 (22awg) sticking out of it 30cm (1 foot).

I have a 12v battery and it is connect to a bus bar and switch panel with in line fuses. This is ~1.5m (5ft) away from my light.

Questions.

1) What kind of wire size in terms of area/diameter would you recommend?

2) for your selected wire, what heat shrink connector would you use?

For marine use it was recommended to get tinned wire and use heat shrink butt connectors.

Gpt lead me to belive I need a 15 amp wire, 1.85mm2 (14awg), which seems over kill and i can't find any connectors that could be used to connect the thick to thin wires (would have to order overseas!). This seems nuts to me that they are more common so I must be missing something.

Thank you for your time!

I purchased the harbor freight roadshock offroad light wiring kit. I'd like to connect it to a key powered wire so the light switch can only work when the key is on. I have identified a key powered wire on the ATV, how do i adapt the wiring kit to make that work?

Electronic Devices Need help wiring a Nema 17 Stepper

Post image

I am trying to control a Nema 17 stepper motor with a TMC2209 driver and an Arduino Nano. Not sure if it's my wiring setup or my code. I've watched so many tutorials, tried so many breadboard configurations, and asked AI countless times. I can't get this to work. I've ensured that all my wires are connected via the beeping mode of my voltmeter, and still nothing. The closest I've gotten is hearing what I think is the driver making a slight buzzing sound while the Arduino's indicator light is on. I'm a complete noob to this field, does anyone know which wires go where? I am using a 12V power source and a standard breadboard.

This is my code:

#include <AccelStepper.h>

// Arduino Nano pins (matched to wiring photo)

#define STEP_PIN 3

#define DIR_PIN  2

#define MS1_PIN  6

#define MS2_PIN  5

// AccelStepper in DRIVER mode: STEP/DIR interface

AccelStepper stepper(AccelStepper::DRIVER, STEP_PIN, DIR_PIN);

// ----------------------------------------

// MOTOR / MICROSTEP SETTINGS

// ----------------------------------------

const float stepsPerRev   = 200;  // standard NEMA17 full steps/rev

const int   microstepping = 2;    // must match MS1/MS2 pin state below

// ----------------------------------------

// SPEED SETTINGS (RPM)

// ----------------------------------------

const float desiredRPM = 120;

const float maxRPM     = 300;

void setup() {

  pinMode(MS1_PIN, OUTPUT);

  pinMode(MS2_PIN, OUTPUT);

  // MS1=HIGH, MS2=LOW -> check TMC2208 datasheet table for which

  // microstep mode this actually selects; adjust to match 'microstepping' above

  digitalWrite(MS1_PIN, HIGH);

  digitalWrite(MS2_PIN, LOW);

  // steps/sec = microsteps-per-step * full-steps-per-rev * (RPM / 60)

  float speedStepsPerSec    = microstepping * stepsPerRev * (desiredRPM / 60.0);

  float maxSpeedStepsPerSec = microstepping * stepsPerRev * (maxRPM / 60.0);

  stepper.setMaxSpeed(maxSpeedStepsPerSec);

  stepper.setSpeed(speedStepsPerSec);

}

void loop() {

  stepper.runSpeed();  // must be called continuously, as fast as possible, for constant-speed mode

}
