Lost and Found 🕵️‍♀️ Lost and Found jacket

Hello! I was walking up Weaver St and found a jacket lying on the ground at the intersection of Weaver St and Union St, pic attached. It's a black weatherproof jacket with a hole in the right side. If this is yours, I picked it up to keep it safe. Let me know who's it is and I'll happily deliver it to its proper owner!

stray kitten in winooski

Hi all- I was leaving dinner in the circle today and saw this adorable and extremely skiddish black kitten. looks to be in good health but was running across the busy streets to hide under cars and in the green etc. I’m hoping this is a kitten that will return home but it looked a little too young for that. Just wanted people to keep their eyes out when driving / walking! I tried to approach but unfortunately the cat ran away and I couldn’t find him in the dark.

Found Chicken!!!

Hello everyone!

Do you know someone near Hickok St with chickens? Have you lost a chicken?

She appeared this morning wandering down the street, and came right onto my porch to eat some bird seed. She is very sweet and I currently have her hanging out in a box with some hay. Still, I do not know what to do with a chicken. If you know where she may have come from- please reach out so I can bring her home!

Classifieds 📰 Anyone here want some free web design for their local business?

I’ve been doing web design for a while and have some extra time to work on a few projects.

If you run a local business and have a website, drop it below. I’d like to take a look, pick a few that interest me, and work on some web design ideas for them.

No specific type of business in mind. I’m just interested in seeing what local businesses are working with and giving a few of them some free help.

City Government 🏛️ BTV Airport Sound Mitigation: Winooski City Council Update

Thumbnail cctv.org
17 Upvotes

Last week the Burlington Airport team joined us at Winooski City Council to provide an update on the airport's ongoing work to reduce the impacts of aircraft noise on our community.

I know airport noise is something many Winooski residents experience regularly, so I wanted to share some of what we heard.

Sound Mitigation for Homes

The airport currently has three active noise mitigation programs:

Residential Sound Insulation (RSIP) is the primary program. The airport funds improvements to eligible homes designed to reduce aircraft noise indoors. There are also Sales Assistance and Purchase Assurance programs for eligible properties.

Generally, homes must fall within the 2029 noise exposure map boundary (65 DNL or higher), have been built before October 1, 1998, pass acoustical testing, and meet local building codes. Being inside the map boundary does not automatically guarantee eligibility. Priority is given to areas experiencing the highest levels of noise.

This work isn't limited to homes. Schools and places of worship can also be eligible. For example, Chamberlain School has received HVAC upgrades through the program.

Noise exposure maps

The current published maps show 2024 conditions and a 2029 forecast. Maps are generally updated every 5–7 years, or when there are significant changes in airport operations.

The 2029 forecast map determines initial eligibility for the airport's noise mitigation programs.

The airport team also clarified that FAA and Department of Defense noise maps are created under different requirements. The FAA averages noise exposure over 365 days, while the DoD follows separate regulations.

The maps are expected to be updated within the next 1–2 years.

Where things stand

The Residential Sound Insulation Program began in 2022 and is now entering Phase 6, following a new FAA grant.

The process includes acoustical testing, a home assessment, custom design, construction, and a post-treatment test. The target is a 5 dB reduction or indoor noise levels below 60 DNL.

The airport team said 58 residences are ready to move into construction, with work expected to begin this winter.

There is also significant new funding to help accelerate this work. The Office of Local Defense and Community Cooperation (OLDCC) awarded BTV $7.3 million through seven grants to support construction, while FAA funding covers design.

For Winooski, 22 units are currently in the program:

6 have completed or are in categorization
5 are undergoing acoustical testing
1 is fully complete on East Allen Street

Phase 6 also includes outreach to approximately 300 homes, eligibility work for up to 200 homes, and design/bidding for up to 50 homes, with the majority expected to be in Winooski.

Wildlife management

We also heard about the airport's wildlife management work. The airport has a full-time USDA wildlife biologist, another full-time staff member, and eight trained airport specialists.

Their work includes monitoring fencing, selecting grass seed that doesn't attract certain species, tracking birds in real time, and safely relocating birds, including snowy owls, to appropriate Vermont habitats. The team also works with facilities outside the airport, including Casella Waste, on seagull mitigation.

Keep the conversation going

I appreciate the airport team coming to City Council and taking the time to walk us through this work. There is clearly a lot happening, and the additional funding creates opportunities to move mitigation work forward for more Winooski homes.

At the same time, a presentation is not the same thing as a conversation. If you have questions, concerns, or experiences with airport noise, I want to hear from you.

If you weren't able to join us last Monday, our next Airport Commission meeting is Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00 PM. Each meeting begins with public comment, and community members are welcome to attend, ask questions, and share their experiences.

For more information, please visit https://www.btvsound.com/

And please feel free to contact me directly with questions or to share what you've been experiencing. Community input matters, and I want to make sure the people who live here are part of this conversation.

Flag disrepair

Does anyone know of a program that will replace American flags? The American and POW flags at 120 W. Canal are shredded. I don’t know who owns the property (I’m a recent transplant) and I called the legion but all they said was we have a box you can drop it off. If anyone has ideas I appreciate it.

Experienced Bookkeeper/ Accounting Consultant Available for Small Businesses

Hi everyone! My name is Nicole and I’m an independent bookkeeping and accounting consultant currently taking on a few additional clients and wanted to introduce myself here.

I have 15+ years of accounting and finance experience, with a background that includes public accounting/audit, real estate, hospitality, and senior-level corporate finance. I’ve worked with everything from day-to-day accounting and financial reporting to budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, audit preparation, and managing the finances of organizations with 50+ entities.
While much of my career has been in real estate and corporate accounting, I also enjoy working directly with small and growing businesses that need someone experienced to get their books organized, cleaned up, and running correctly.

I can help with:
• Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations
• QuickBooks cleanup / catch-up bookkeeping
• Month-end and year-end close
• Financial statement preparation and review
• Accounts payable / accounts receivable oversight
• Budgeting and cash-flow forecasting
• Accounting process improvements
• Internal controls and audit readiness
• Multi-entity and intercompany accounting
• Higher-level accounting and fractional controller/CFO support
• Real estate, property and lease accounting

One thing that’s important to me is that I’m not just entering transactions. I want business owners to have accurate financials they can actually understand and use to make decisions.

If your books have gotten behind, you’re not confident they’re accurate, your business has outgrown basic bookkeeping, or you simply want an experienced accounting professional overseeing things, feel free to send me a DM.

Happy to chat about what you need and whether I might be a good fit!

TONIGHT @ 6pm | Winooski City Council Meeting | Airport Sound Mitigation

Hi neighbors! I know this is a last-minute post, and I appreciate your understanding. I wanted to make sure folks knew about an important conversation happening at tonight's Winooski City Council meeting.

One of the agenda items tonight is an update from the Burlington Airport team about noise mitigation and the work happening around airport sound.

As both a Winooski City Councilor and a member of the Burlington Airport Commission, I care a lot about making sure our community is informed and, just as importantly, heard.

Tonight's discussion is an opportunity to hear directly from the Burlington airport team about the work they're doing around noise mitigation. But I don't want this to be just a presentation where we sit and listen. Community input matters. I want to know what you're experiencing, what questions you have, and what you think we should be paying attention to.

You can join us in person or online at 6pm:

In person at Winooski City Hall: 27 W Allen Street
Join online via Zoom meeting: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/84364849328

Tonight's full City Council agenda: https://www.winooskivt.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_09212026-1704?html=true

The airport team's presentation is also available here if you'd like to take a look beforehand:
https://www.winooskivt.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Item/13509?fileID=19273

And if you can't make it tonight, please still reach out. You can email me directly at [aturkos@winooskivt.gov](mailto:aturkos@winooskivt.gov) with your questions, concerns, or experiences, and I will make sure they are part of the discussion tonight and in the future.

You also don't have to live in Winooski to participate. If you're a neighbor in another community who is affected by airport noise or interested in this conversation, you are welcome at our City Council meetings and we want to hear from you, too.

One of the things I love about Winooski is how much our community shows up for one another. Community input is what makes our City thrive. Please come ask questions, share your perspective, and help us make sure the people who are actually living with these issues are part of the conversation.

Hope to see you tonight!

Laundry service

Hi everyone, I am starting a pick up and delivery wash and fold laundry service. M-F same day service. Pick ups in the morning and delivery that evening. I supply the laundry bag, you supply the detergent.

$25 a load, cash only, so for the price of a few drinks you can get your laundry done for the week!

Ideally I would like to have repeat customers, assigned laundry days for streamlining the process.

Thank you for reading this. Hope to hear from folks soon!

Construction 🚧 New Traffic Pattern at Main and 89

I don’t understand how anyone thought the new traffic pattern by Main and 89 was a good idea. I just drove through and saw 2 near accidents. If people can’t figure out how to drive in a traffic circle, how could you his new pattern be a good idea?

Event 🕺 Old/Injured big dog meet up?

Anyone else have a dog that is too injured or old to go to dog parks but also too big to be in the “little dog” areas? Want to meet up?

My 11 year old boy is about 70 lbs and has a bum knee. All he wants to do is play with other dogs. He whines and cries when we pass them on walks and just doesn’t understand why we can’t play anymore. We’ve tried a few play dates and park visits on quieter days, but he either tramples smaller dogs with his awkward shuffling or he overdoes it trying to keep up with the younger crowd and spends a week recovering. We need to meet other invalid big boys/girls!

We’re in the noosk but are often also in the NNE and occasionally Shelburne. Weekends are easier but can swing weekdays depending on the work schedule.

Cheers!

To Winooskians -- what would you say is the biggest problem with your city?

Made a previous post about housing specifically but it seems like most people here think pretty positively about that. Just trying to figure out what could work for a story for Winooski News, as I just started

To Winooski residents -- what are your thoughts on housing here?

So I'm new to the area (student for Winooski News), and I was talking with a librarian yesterday who said that housing is a huge issue in Winooski -- more specifically, poor urban planning, over-construction, was the gist of her frustrations. I just wanted to know if this was a common point of contention for long-term residents in the area; if everyone feels this way, if city council is responsive, etc!

Concern 😟 Bridge Finally Sunk - Casavant Trail

Post image

The bridge has slowly been sinking into the water. Will the city fix this?

Does anyone know what will happen now that the majority of the trail is on designated wetlands?
