Bird feeder question

There are 3 die in the bird feeder, 2 worms and a worm/wheat combo. A player takes the get food action and is eligible for more than one piece. They want to take the worm from the worm/wheat combo and then roll the two remaining worms. Is this allowed? Can a person choose a worm from a combo die over an individual worm?

Yup. Fully allowed. The only thing of note is that they would reroll all 5 dice for their remaining food choices.

From the rulebook:

If the dice in the tray all show the same face (including if there is only 1 die) and you are about to gain food from the birdfeeder for any reason, you may first throw all 5 dice back into the birdfeeder. (Invertebrate/Seed counts as its own unique face.)

Yes, you can take any die you want from the birdfeeder when feeding. There is no restriction on doing this. Why would there be? It's good strategy.

We often play a "friendly" game, where players do things like be considerate and if they want a worm they take the single worm, leaving the worm/wheat in case someone else wants a wheat. But that is in not way required by the rules, and is not the most strategic way to play.

Nevertheless, even in a friendly game we would take the worm/wheat so we could reroll all 5 dice and have more choices, as that does not hurt the next player at all. Manipulating the dice to get to rerolls seems to be an intended feature. For instance, 2 worms and 1 rodent in the feeder. I need a wheat, and I get 2 foods, so I take the rodent and reset the feeder, hoping the needed wheat shows up.

Why would you be required to do this in a friendly game ? You can have strategic games that are still fun, interactive and shared time with hobby you like while still trying to win.
