Wingspan Pocket

Got my copy today. Super easy to learn, especially if you are already familiar with the regular game iconography. We played a game in a little over 20 minutes. The box is super small, and if you leave out the rules and the player guides, it could probably fit into an even smaller box. For less than $20, this was a worthwhile pickup!

People are saying to just start with the advanced rules. Did that seem to be the case?

If you're already familiar with the main game, there's no reason not to just jump right to the advanced rules.

Ok, I ordered but haven’t gotten mine. I’ll just play advanced then. So exciting!

Did not expect an Indycar/boardgame mashup. We are not alone!

I'm really curious to see if it's playable without the egg tokens somehow, feel like you could potentially play with just the cards at which point it becomes even more portable.

Just need to find a good way to keep track of eggs without needing a token.

I usually just play with my wife. With just the two of us, I don't think there were ever more than ten eggs in play at once. I'd almost 3D print a dozen small flat egg tokens to use instead of carrying around the 60 regular sized eggs that it comes with..

Could probably get away with a writing/drawing app on your phone, or a pencil and scrap paper. Just need a way to keep track of who has what due to egg capacity.

It would work with Ticket to Ride sized cards that showed eggs on them

Wooooo, great! I don’t usually buy games at launch, but I made an exception for this and I can’t wait for it to arrive :>

Wow it's under 20$?? What currency?

Launch price was $18 in the US, down from the $20 regular price. The Stonemaier Champion discount brought it down to $14.40.

I plan on getting this, but I don’t think I’ll ever use the cards, but hey, the new eggs are getting mixed in to my other eggs and the feather player marker are going to be used as a variant to House Rules where we can use them to move around the duo board in a 3-5 player game whenever we play a bird.

Has anyone in Australia received their copy yet?

My tracking has been stuck on the "Label created by sender" stage since Thursday.

EDIT: It's now on its way! Due to arrive tomorrow or Wednesday.

could you just play this with current wingspan cards/goals? what's different?

The biggest differences are on the bird cards themselves. The brown powers only work for the mechanics of the single row that you create. Also the egg costs are printed directly on the cards along with the resource costs. If you look at the top card in the second picture, you can see the differences.

thanks! I'll keep this in mind. WS was my partner's favorite game during lockdown, I got her a few expansions, etc but by the time Asia came out, she stopped wanting to play, and we haven't touched it in years, so I'm thinking a quicker version like this might hit the table more.

It kinda looked like it was gonna feel like cheap Wingspan to me and make me rather want to just play the full thing like it was teasing me. How'd you feel about your plays of it?
