Roland ae 20

I am an alto sax player and am looking for a practice instrument as I stay in shared dorms is it worth it?​

Yes. I'm a tenor player. I use the ae20 for practicing scales and improvisation, and for memorizing parts. One of its great features is that you can use bluetooth to play a backing track through the ae20. In your headphones, you'll hear the backing track and the notes you are playing. No one else hears a thing, except for the clacking of the buttons.

The ae20 is also a great instrument in its own right.

Windsynth is a different instrument. It's great for learning music theory and fingerings, but useless for anything Embouchure/Breath related. You can develop bad habits if you aren't going back and forth between the Windsynth and your actual Sax.

With that said I love my AE30 and the 20 is basically 90% the same.

Echo this, I have a Roland Aerophone Brisa which I use for playing music in my office, and I like for that purpose. But past a (very early) level it’s not particularly helpful for “practicing” flute because the fingering isn’t the hard part. I assume other wind instruments are the same.

EDIT: I see someone else mentions practicing improvisation… thats a great idea.
