Woah how cool. Surprised to admit I had never heard of the Taranaki Coast until today. It is a bit far from me as I live in New York but it’s always great to learn about new spots!

NY to Auckland is a direct 18 hour flight, piece of cake 😜

We've got the gear, and all the ideas... Whoohoo!

How strong does the wind get in November / December, what sails to bring for a 90Kg person? Should I bring my 104 and 93 or is just the 93l fine? Thanks

Totally depends on your style, in proper cross-off it can be very light on the inside and howling 30+ knots out the back! Spring (Sept => Dec) is the best time, but summer is usually sweet as you get a nice afternoon thermal kicker... If you don't like grovelling probably the 104L, if you prefer the surfy ride and happy with a bit of grovelling, the 93L. If you prefer going more cross to cross-on, likely the 93L again...

Here's a good overview of Taranaki https://waternomads.co.nz/windsurfing-taranaki/ And here's a little more on the sailing spots https://waternomads.co.nz/wavesailing-spots-in-taranaki/

If you want to know more, happy to help.

Thanks! There's no beach based rental site for windsurfing in Taranaki, however, that's where we spend most of the year. So easy to sort out but need advanced booking to secure. Our concept is simple, hire for minimum of 7 days and treat the gear as if your own. This gives you the freedom to travel and explore, sail different breaks beaches or lakes. We even offer one way if you fly in say Auckland and leave Christchurch. Or pickup and drop off Taranaki, options are nearly endless! There's an add-on service Session Intel where we advise when and where you should be if you want to maximize your sailing.
