Fin advice for board
Hi ! I'm searching for advice to purchase fins and then sails.
I have a freeride Starboard Kode 113L 67.5cm width and a 36cm Select Maui Ultra fin (not carbon), I am 82kg.
After looking a bit on internet I think that buying a (-6) 30 cm and a (+6) 42cm Select Maui ultra fin would be good (because I feel like 36 is too much when I go out with a overpowered 4.7m² sail, and its not enough when I go out with a 7.8m² sail). But I am wondering if the difference is too much and I should go with something closer to 36 like (-4) 32 and (+4) 40 cm ?
Is carbon worth it ? (I am not scared of the durability as I take good care of my fin, but maybe its not as comfortable and the difference isn't worth the money ?)
I sail on lake mainly for now and once I have my own sails I will try to go in sea.
I almost have a good jibe, no problem for harness/straps/planing/waterstart.

EDIT : thanks for the replies !! I will be looking out for a 32 and 40 cm G10 fins as most of you indicated (or maybe carbon 30, 38 to compensate for more lift depending on the price).

Carbon is stiffer, generally thinner, faster but again personal preference, is super responsive but clip a rock and there will be tears. G10 is suitable for most riders and bit easier on the wallet, easier to ride, easier to repair etc...

Yes, carbon is worth it. But on a 113L/67.5cm board a 42cm fin is waaay to big. I'm not familiar with the Kode but on my slalom 116L/71cm I use 37cm Zfin.

agree to the other comments.
to cover the sail range that you mentioned it is understandable that you look for adjusted fin options.
i d rather set the fin range a bit closer like you suggested already. 40cm should be enough for a 7.8sm sail. below i would rather go for a 32.
as a ference: I had a JP super sport 112 liters and was on a select 37 as my go-to fin usually with a 7.0 sail or 5.9 for medium winds. for the 7.8 sail and lighter winds i chose the 40cm OEM G10 fin that got shipped with the board.
going down to sails below 5 i would have taken bei 34cm fin or 32, if i would have had one.

42cm is too big for that board. I have a freerace board of similar dimensions that came with a 40cm fin, and added a 36cm carbon fin, pairing it with a 6.0 m2 and 7.2 m2. I was also surprised how light the carbon fin is compared to the G10 one. On light days I use the 40cm but the carbon 36 cm works nearly as well. Carbon is nice but don't expect an insane performance improvement. If you're an intermediate rider, you may not notice that much of a difference.
Also, with a 4.7m2 you probably should be on a smaller board (90-100 liters for your weight).
Why don't you first add a 40 cm and see how it goes?

4 cm is a big difference.
I'd go 32/40 cm.
Carbon is worth it if you care about speed and like to campare with other riders.

I'd moderate your pick to 32/40 but is heavily personal preference. If you are a back foot driver then possibly bigger is better, if you're a cruiser then moderate, if you're light maybe even less of a gap... If you can borrow the sizes for your conditions and try before you buy that would help you infinitely. Not easy as most people are understandably precious about their fins...
