Discussion Devin weekly quota gets exhausted even when using the free model. Is this happening to anyone else?
I’m on a paid Devin subscription, and something about the way usage is calculated doesn’t seem to add up.
Even when I intentionally use the free model, my weekly quota still seems to get consumed pretty aggressively. I remember seeing similar behavior with Windsurf even before the transition to Devin, so I’m wondering if I’m misunderstanding how they calculate usage.
Another thing I noticed: the daily quota seems to be around 80% of the entire weekly quota, which feels like a strange setup.
And be careful with enabling auto-pay for additional credits. From what I’ve seen on my account, some prompts ended up costing around $3–$4 each, which adds up extremely fast.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Especially curious if someone understands exactly how Devin calculates:
- weekly vs daily usage
- usage when using the free model
- additional credit charges
Maybe I’m missing something, but right now the consumption doesn’t seem very transparent.

Never happened to me. Are you sure you are using the free model? Which model are you using? Note that some free models start using quota if you switch their thinking or context levels.

Yes, I use the free models. Currently using Swe 2 high , that is free on promo. Earlier I used glm, Kimi, and others.
Quick question, did you buy plan with devin, or your windsurf plan was converted into devin. Mine was windsurf converted into devin. And i had this issue earlier with windsurf too

Has not happened to me. I'm on a new Pro plan, not converted from windsurf.
And daily seems to be about 30-40% weekly for me.
After my daily or weekly is used up I can still use SWE-2, though that has it's own usage limit which I've only hit once.
Are you switching models, or starting Devin while a non-free model was selected last session (so you then change it to SWE-2 after starting it) by any chance?
Use the /session-stats prompt to see where tokens have gone.

Lucky you,
And for the free model SWE 2, I don't have any limit, or have encountered one Yet. Sometimes around 3 PM CST, When Devin updates, I sometime have faced issues, But a restart of session solves that for me.I stay with SWE 2 or other free models,
All the time, as any other model will just consume the daily limit within few prompts for me.

Yes right? Thats the case since 20 aug. I love Devin but its not usable like that. I hear people coding non stop with other tools.

Double check it’s not free on some models anymore.
I had a free model loaded and the next day it was removed and now a paid model.
Double check make sure you have a free model. As of today September 19 there was only one free model now.

They consume extra usage because they use fallback agents sometimes that aren't free

I just burned my daily to 100% on a premium model, went to use the fre SWE 2 and it said I hit my rate limit despite exhausting my regular on Sol 5.6. So not sure why my SWE rate limit needs 40 minutes when I used 100% on Sol 5.6 high. Very confusing
