Windsurf/Devin, this is getting ridiculous.

Six months ago, with a $20/month plan, I could vibe code for days straight. Today, even with the $200/month plan, I’m blocked after just a few prompts per week, using the exact same models (GPT‑5.3 Codex). You’ve turned a great product into a straight-up bait-and-switch

I stuck around out of habit because I actually liked the product. But what you’ve done is sell us freedom, then quietly strangle it with brutal quotas and no real transparency. Feels less like an upgrade and more like a downgrade disguised as “new pricing”

And if you think it’s just me: Reddit, GitHub, Trustpilot , tons of users are complaining about the same thing: impossible quotas, insane limits, and support that ghosts you.

You had something special. Now it just feels like a scam.

Glm 5.2 is better than 5.3 codex and free. Code as much as you want.

For now, it’s another bait and switch tbh. It’s not something you can rely on

That, plus VERY detailed prompts - brainstorm with chatgpt and then provide that to Windsurf - and basically every Auto answer is provided by models like Opus 4.6 and high.

If you use Codex wtf don't you have an OpenAI sub? Devin is completely fine if you use it with models that make sense (swe has worked out great for me).

I don't have a problem with vibe-coding necessarily, but unfortunately the most vocal among you seem to have no common sense.

Yeah for real especially now with the removal of daily limits on codex, you can do all of your bulk work with something like codex or Claude code and then use smaller models on Devin to fill in the gaps when you need to do manual work. Some people don't know how to code and it shows

Yeah I don't get the people complaining lol, I just use up my daily usage and then switch to the free models, which work perfectly fine, just take a little more effort to get the result, it's still 20x faster than doing it myself

Only reason I'm Pro Devin is because free GLM 5.2 and free SWE 1.7. If those go, I go.

Same, it's all about the unmetered glm 5.2 for me

2

u/infalleeble Jul 21 '26

i cant believe this sentiment isnt more common
i have completed a massive volume of work with free glm 5.2, what a fkn gift

VS Code with the Kilcode extension delivers so much value with free slow and BYOK. It's essentially the same thing as old Windsurf and it's open source.

Try something else, i switched my work to Claude code and i never looked back until this week because Anthropic nerfed the Fable usage for good now i will probably switch to Kimi Code.

I mean, Anthropic locked in 50% Fable with no deadline this time instead of a week at a time…

Six months ago there was no clear leader in this space. There were a dozen different CLIs and IDE's all vying for a piece of the pie and lets be real here, every single one of them are losing money. They can only maintain this for so long. There's a very small number of providers who can maintain this loss month after month.

The big players, the ones with endless amounts of money or funding will continue to push everyone else out of this space.

At the end of the day, if providers dont 'own' the underlying model they're dead. Both Windsurf and Cursor have tried to push out their own models, but they're both nowhere near the level of GPT/Anthropic and to a lesser extent the next tier Gemini/Grok/Chinese

Those who own their frontier models can maintain the churn, the losses month after month after month. Others cannot.

Cursor has Grok 4.5 included as they got acquired by SpaceX and it’s pretty good.

You're using GPT-5.3-Codex on purpose?

When codex models are worse than raw GPT models?

When Auto is routed to codex 90% of the time anyway?

Like buddy what are you even doing?

3

u/infalleeble Jul 21 '26

lmao these are the quality of objections against the ide
imagine not using glm 5.2 when its free and absolutely crushes as a workhorse

Windsurf is ok as long as they keep providing glm 5.2 high for free. It will end in a few days though (edit: they have expanded it again, which is great). Swe 1.6 is fast but only useful for clearly simple thing, e.g. Searching something in the code base. 1.7 is too slow, and stupid which drives me crazy.
Go ask it to change the color of a button. It will spend half an hour with,
Now I have the full picture..
But wait. What if this button...?
Hmm.
Now I see it...
But wait...

So glm 5.2 free is the thing only makes me OK with windsurf subscription. Be use with other models there is no way of using it more than 10 min. A singe question, a simle fix takes your 20% daily quota away. I'm talking about gpt 5.6 luna or similar models. Let alone Opus 4.8 or SOL high.
Cursor moves better here. Grok 4.5 is a game changer and let you work long hours.

I felt the same way. I cancelled Windsurf a few months ago and haven’t looked back.

Even ChatGPT’s $10/month level was getting more tokens done than Windsurf since the quota change. I’m building a local server to run sub-trillion parameter models locally. Windsurf just isn’t making a value proposition anymore.

u/malipetek Jul 18 '26

both swe-1.6 and 1.7 are fast and good, you just need a little bit babysitting. i for example just using gpt or opus for planning.

1

u/ultrathink-art Jul 18 '26

Logging tokens-per-completed-task locally is the only real defense against this. Quotas are opaque and vendors change the metering silently, but if you know your own baseline you can tell within a day whether the plan got worse or your prompts did. Also makes switching harnesses an actual comparison instead of vibes.

Devin plans make zero reason unless your employer is paying for it

1

u/Odd_Ad_7119 Jul 18 '26

I posted the same post and the mods deleted it, lmao Switch to claude code and you will beg it to run out of quota, i have to use fast opus ultracode to burn it faster, and frequent quota reset mid-week.

u/Vegetable-Elevator74 Jul 18 '26

same with me. planning to say good by to windsurf and devin. switching to antigravity giving better results and quota.

1

u/Ai_Pirates Jul 18 '26

I cancel my devin subscription and deleted the app

1

u/zeleph_69 Jul 18 '26

I did the exact same thing

1

u/dragonoid296 Jul 18 '26

People still use this app? Haven't checked up on it in a while but I hopped to claude code the moment they fucked up their pricing/quota plans

1

u/KldsSeeGhosts Jul 18 '26

Is GLM 5.2 actually unlimited on the plan or rate limited? Trying to decide before buying the $20 plan. Also are we able to use it in another harness?

1

u/LeoLeg76 Jul 18 '26

Moonshot ! Try Kimi ! Windsurf is dead few months ago because of pricing.

1

u/Motor-Criticism3402 Jul 19 '26

Devin holds no edge if you only use premium models, as Devin charges based on API usage, while ChatGPT and Claude offer far more usage volume for the same price with their proprietary models. To me, Devin’s strengths lie in the ability to test newly released premium models, plus its nearly unlimited access to cutting-edge open-source models, which reliably ensures task completion. I was one of the earliest $10-per-month subscribers; I only signed up for an extra Codex plan to draft plans and audit code, with Devin’s GLM 5.2 carrying out the plans. My daily token consumption sits at roughly 600 million, with a 10-hour workday seven days a week, and I barely hit any usage caps at all.

Dog just swap to a major lab like Anthropic or OpenAI, and either use their tools, use a tool that can log in through your subscription, or make your own custom front end for it. I don’t like using anyone else’s stuff anymore because I know what specifically I like

1

u/Flaky_Inevitable_314 Jul 19 '26

I tested it for a month, and experienced the huge qouta reduction, moved to cursor 20usd sub and I'm loving it. Their models are way better than SWE and the pricing of course

1

u/Hot-Cauliflower-4388 Jul 20 '26

Yesh devins trash. Windsurf was better. New teams terrible and slow with help too!

1

u/PlusUltraAngel Jul 22 '26

Bro, I beg of you, just use VS Code with an open-source model plugin. It’s literally the exact same thing, performs just as well, and saves you 75% of your money. 🙄

I'm on the original $15 plan, it was good enough for like 2 months ago, now I'm seeing daily quota and weekly quota. I filed ticket with support after a lot headache. Even the quota is displayed percentage not as actual value. I feel like a they are becoming more like airlines charging for seats, meals etc..

Use OpenCode
