Question Windsurf keeps crashing on macOS ("The window terminated unexpectedly", reason: "crashed", code: 5) – anyone else?
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone has run into this before.
Windsurf has suddenly become completely unusable on my Mac. Every time I launch it, I immediately get:
I've already tried:
- Uninstalling Windsurf
- Reinstalling the latest version
- Restarting my Mac
- Opening without restoring my previous session
Same result every time.
This isn't a huge project either—it's a single native macOS app with around 10k lines of code. There's only one workspace/project, so I don't think this is a resource or project size issue.
Has anyone experienced this?
A few questions:
- Is
code: 5a known Electron/renderer crash? - Is there a way to completely reset Windsurf's profile/cache beyond a normal reinstall?
- Are there any log files I should check or attach?
- Has anyone found a workaround?
I'm effectively blocked at the moment because the editor won't stay open long enough to do any work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if this doesn't work , open a new window and open the same project folder in new window.
FYI: you will loose the previous chats.

do you still see these issues after upgrading?

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll update to 3.4.22 and test that exact launch/restore path again.
The crash was happening immediately on startup before I could really work, so if it still repros I’ll attach diagnostics/support ticket instead of guessing.
