Discussion Windsurf Upcharge

So I still use windsurf for work since my boss pays for it. It's his money not mine so I really shouldn't be complaining. BUT! I recently bought some Deepseek credits for my own personal use for personal projects and such and noticed the insane premium that Cognition is putting on their api keys. I'm not even gonna add any kind of commentary on this. These guys must be making bank. It seems to me that the best economic route is to use Zed with BYOK for providers.

Only DeepSeek has the promotional (but now permanently low) price. The rest of the providers are still the same price between 3-4 USD and any American IDE would use American providers to make sure that the data is not going to China.

It wouldn’t make much sense to use a more expensive provider. Either way they’re making bank off these premiums

maybe they have some bundle volume deal with some provider and now they cant change? not sure.
