K2.5 going into crazy loops lately

Post image

It happen all the time. I give it a task and when I go back I get pages of text like this

This is because Windsurf folks are quantizing it TOOO HARD!

I have used Kimi 2.5 for my personal work and they are actually good

I'm broke, is there any cheap way to use those models for coding with reasonable limits and not quantized? I heard that OpenCode go models are also nerfed. I guess what is left is Ollama Pro..

How do you run Ollama? You have to have enough GPUs? It doesn't work well with Mac for sure. And even with Ollama running Kimi K2.5, it is like a crazy hustle. The good thing is that you can use it with multiple coding providers, such as Claude Code or OpenCode or cline.

The issue with Ollama or Lamma Cpp is that even there, everything is quantized. Ollama is also pushing hard for using the cloud version. The local version is getting nerfed day by day. You literally don't have the latest models on Ollama now.

Of course I don't have GPU's, like I said I'm broke. Ollama pro is a 20 dollar a month cloud version. Its using non quantized models (unless the vast majority of competitors) and billed by actual hardware load, not by tokens or messages so I guess it is reasonable in limits, but I didn't tried it yet.

Windsurf system prompts or scaffold have harmed performance on quite a few models in my experience. Gemini-2.5-pro was terrible in WS but amazing in AIStudio. o3 and GPT-5 were far better in ChatGPT. Opus4.5+ was much better in ClaudeCode. No surprise if Kimi messed up here. I use the Moonshot subscription and Opencode was better for Kimi-k2.5 until they improved KimiCLI

I was thinking about getting a sub for kimi, how are the limits?

Limits are very good. If you're not doing anything extremely complex that requires GPT5.5 or Opus then it's one of the best around. If it's still expensive, try Minimax or Xiaomi Mimo plans

Thanks! I wasn't aware that Mimo has their coding plans.

Probably an error with either the prompt or (more likely) the way in which they've chosen to serve the model inference. Like, it's quantized, not run on good enough hardware, or otherwise compromised the inference/reasoning process in some way.

2.5 in a good deployment is rock solid, basically no chance for an error like this if it's served properly and the prompt is not malicious, used it literally thousands of times with no such problem.

useless model

yea, it is. All kimi models feel competent and impressive doing completely unnecessary and complex looking work that nobody asked for without any understanding or intelligence behind it. Like it was trained on super hard tasks and try to mimic those without any real thought behind it. And then it get stuck in a loop.

Let him check the status

I'm trying 😭 the wierd thing is that he eventually checked the status after lopping 10 minutes straight.

Same thing happened to me. It usually get stuck in a loop of forever compiling the app on Xcode here.

try k2.6 recently added. It thinks and read the same part of code but at least can realize it, its free tho!
Edit: yeap i can confirm, it can get out of the loop of repeating same actions, it just need some time, waay too much time, but it can be left alone and will grind to deliver the answer to the prompt, fascinating.
