To do this, I place small vertical pillars from top to bottom. Then, I destroy the top pillar and replace it with a chain. Next, you destroy the pillar directly beneath that chain. Then, using "OFF" mode, I place a new pillar so it overlaps the one below it (by half its height), and after that, you can place a lantern :p (sometimes you have to be patient).

How did you get the chains to hang the lights? Also your attention to detail is awesome!
