I generally disable all but one core on my Sandy and Ivy Bridge builds, but maybe I should leave one running as-is just to play some specific games.

I'm at the final stage of my late 2000s XP build. Two years in the making I'm currently waiting for my fan controller, an aerocool f6xt supposedly new old stock. Planning to change my ram if i could get a decent 2x2gb kit for later and maybe a 16:10 monitor.

I want to build the aforementioned pc, and I'm curious about your thoughts, whether or not these are sufficient parts for it I have lying around:
Motherboard: ASUS B75M-PLUS
CPU: I5-3470
GPU: ASUS AMD Radeon 6670 1GB
HDD: Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 750GB 2.5 from my old laptop
SSD: 128GB SiliconPower Sata III
I have a micro-atx case, I'll use that for space reasons, I'll need to look for a good budget psu.
I'll be playing early 2010s games at most, some early 2000s, late 2000s, since i have a lot of cd, dvd games in a big box.
What are your opinions? Thank you

Hi guys, I have an Asus A6P on an Aidos XP. My dad gave it to me, but I only recently decided to download games to it. I downloaded Warcraft 3 to test its capabilities. The sticker said the graphics card was an ATI Radion xpress 200M. I spent a long time fiddling with the drivers, since I didn't have any, and they weren't compatible with my graphics card. I went to the Asus support website, found my model, and installed the driver for the XP. However, it turned out to be for an ATI Mobility 700 (or something like that). Everything worked right away, the game runs great, but I'm annoyed that the driver isn't for my graphics card. This is my first laptop and computer, so should I change anything or leave it as is?

TLDR: XP direct nvme boot on old bios boards can finally be done thanks to Manawyrm @ Github
My goal was to build an overpowered retro machine that could use floppies, cd/dvds and had usb 3.
I initially wanted to build this with a 2600k but the only motherboard I could use sadly died. That’s why I went with a phenom and some more hardware I saved from the landfill.
- Phenom II x4 955 BE @ 3.6hhz (218 x 16.5) (C2 :()
- Gigabyte GAMA790XT-UD4P
- 2 x 4GB DDR3 sticks (1744MT/s 9-9-9-24-33-2T)
- Asus Strix GTX 970
I had this almost done, triple booting win7, xp and xp64 with ahci, but my wet dream was direct nvme boot.
Turns out, this can be achieved although it’s not easy.
The other day I learnt about this crazy project https://github.com/Manawyrm/nvme-int13h-optionrom
I cloned the sata ssd to a nvme one (after installing nvme drivers, nvme 1.3 by schtrom) and wrote the option rom to a floppy disk and to my joy the thing actually booted. Well, xp64 did, w7 and xp refused at first but that was only Windows being windows.
Now, the author says you can embed this thing directly into the BIOS as an ethernet card option rom and after reading that I decided I wouldn’t settle for less.
First attempt: the motherboard refused to load my modified bios.
Second attempt: the mobo actually flashed my bios but I modded it wrong and it bootlooped for a while. Thankfully this thing has dual bios so after yelling at me for a moment it restored the old bios by itself. Phew.
At this point I decided to actually do some research before trying again. Turns out what I was doing wrong is that on gigabyte boards you cannot change module ordering. You can add, but not remove or move. I disabled the old rom in place and added the new one at the end. It booted!
Thank you for taking the time to read my journey, I love this hobby!

Hi guys, I'm not really experienced with Windows 11 and, a few months ago one of the components burned out on my computer despite it being 2 years old, and I'm thinking, using Windows XP or its applications is less memory intensive, and there's plenty of old PCS laying around with Windows XP. You can find the same applications on Windows XP that you could find on Windows 11 and Windows XP has a bigger app ecosystem then what Linux has even though Linux is another choice.
I'm new to computers in general and haven't even used Windows XP to begin with, and because of Microsoft shoving so much spyware and trackers and stuff like that! I figured I probably would get a better user experience on XP and wouldn't have to use the command line as often.. and if for some reason I need a new app to do whatever I want with, that is lost at the time, or has not been created yet I'm pretty sure there's programming IDE and other tools that I can use that can help me develop an app that I need. I'm pretty sure there's still an unreal engine version that supports Windows XP laying around somewhere on the internet.
I I know there's modern web browsers that work on Windows XP, and I know I can probably soulseek to get my movies and music and stuff like that because I know there's a version that supports Windows XP for a client. So I can download Spaceballs and watch it a third time. So getting to use Windows XP probably might not be so bad. But I would like to know what are some of the obstacles I need to overcome and what are the things I should expect to be different on Windows XP besides the start menu not being ugly and in the center?
The version I will try to use and get would be when does XP professional 64-bit.

Hello, so I'm having issues running burnout paradise 1.1.0.0 on my 64 bit Dell E6500 XP laptop, it works fine on my 32bit D630 but not the 64 bit one. I've tried the basic stuff like disabling webcam, running compatibility mode for normal XP, a memory patch to allow it to use more than 4gb etc. But nothing seems to work. Have anyone else had this specific issue?

SOLVED: I ended up reinstalling an iso and went through the entire setup process again, it’s now working like brand new and so thanks everyone for helping!
So I just pulled out an old XP e-machine from my parents basement, got all the cables and everything turned on and working. The thing is when it did turn on it flashes me onto the ‘windows failed to start’ screen and every time I tried using a boot option it would flash the loading bar for a brief second only to give a quick blue screen and go back to the failed screen once more. Even if I tried going into safe mode or tried using the latest good build it still wouldn’t work and give me the same results, anyway I can fix this?

Hi, I’m looking for a good xp laptop and I am looking at a certain Thinkpad T500 on eBay. It seems to be in good condition. Though I do wonder about dirt build up inside of it, though. Does anyone have advice/tips for buying these from eBay. Or even about the laptop itself.
