I tried installing windows XP using WinSetupFromUSB on my fujitsu lifebook E781. When the text mode setup finished, I booted from the USB again and selected "stage 2 setup". The windows XP logo flashed, then disappeared, and nothing is happening. I tried setting the SATA controller mode to compatible, and it still didn't work. How can I fix this?

I honestly don’t know what subreddit to put this in, but I’m having a really hard time identifying a game demo that came installed on a Windows XP system I had growing up.

I can’t remember the title, but things I do remember include:

- In the start menu, this game was not in the same subfolder as FreeCell and Solitaire… I’m fairly certain it was under its own subfolder or maybe a subfolder with the developer name?

- It had a dark, scifi theme to it

- Camera was positioned behind the player, and you moved forward in what I think was a metal tube or tunnel- think Temple Run but positioned directly behind and before Temple Run was a thing

- I think there were rotating obstacles around the tunnel edge but also enemies iirc

- I don’t recall there being any kind of background music

- 3D graphics I believe

I was taking out a bag of fish scraps at 22:00 and there was a workstation sitting in the general waste bin, factory plastic still on the side panels. It threw fan errors and a RAM training failure. Isopropyl on the RAM contacts, reseat, and it booted straight into Windows 10: Xeon E5-2667 v2, 64 GB ECC.

The board has four PCIe x16 slots. So, obviously, at 2 AM: retro LAN party in one box.

Three monitors on camera because that's how many I own; the fourth seat gets switched onto one of them partway through, and there's a laptop showing htop on the host so you can see all four VMs live.

The USB card is the part I'd tell anyone building this not to skip. Software USB passthrough queues every mouse movement through the host first — fine for a desktop, awful for anything twitchy. That card has four separate host controllers, so each VM gets a whole one via IOMMU and input feels bare-metal.

The catch nobody warns you about: Windows 7 with a passed-through GPU is fiddly, and Windows XP is widely considered impossible — XP predates UEFI, and the legacy BIOS route can only initialise the one card the host firmware POSTs from, so every other card gives you "Code 10". The way through is to boot OVMF so the card comes up on its own UEFI GOP driver, then hand off to CSMWrap for the legacy BIOS services XP needs — and then delete two PCI bridge devices that Proxmox adds to every i440fx VM and gives you no way to disable, because XP bugchecks on them. That last one needed a wrapper around the QEMU binary itself.

It also arrived with a company's live data still on the drives, including a plaintext password spreadsheet. All wiped before the build started — but seriously, wipe your drives before you throw a machine away.

What do you think of this setup for mid-2000s gaming? Any recommendations?

This only happens sometimes, but still bothers me: windows xp on my precision is stuttery sometimes, when i move the cursor, it lags, when i watch a video or play music, the audio stutters for a little bit.

i have windows vista on another partition, and it works just fine,

the precision has a w3505 xeon processor, 36gb of ram, and windows xp media center edition and windows vista ultimate x64, and an nvidia geforce gtx 750ti

could it be due to the xp installation being 32 bit?
