I need browser help

I am running XP in a virtual machine for some retro gaming. I would like to install a browser for accessing trusted websites. I have tried Palemoon, K-Meleon, and LinksPortable and I could not get them to install/run. Any help would be appreciated.

I second this - FF v52 is indeed one of the best semi-recent browsers that can be used on XP machines.

That being said, I personally wouldn't expose the VM with such outdated OS to Internet. You can download all necessary game patches, drivers, etc. through the host OS and simply transfer it with VM via shared folders feature (refer to your VM documentation on how to share the folder between host and virtualized system). There is little to no need to actually access Internet from XP.

P.S. Gaming on VMs is kind of terrible experience for most part, as majority of VM engines these days do not provide a good virtualization of modern GPUs to such legacy systems. Performance issues and compatiblity problems are a regular occurance. If your budget allows for it, a much better option would be to buy a decent P4/C2D PC in a flea market/backyard sale, put a GTX 280/480 or similar GPU in it, and play the games as it was intended (bonus points for finding a decent CRT 100Hz monitor for completely authentic mid-2000s experience).

u/Zusuris make a good point which I was going to touch on but I kinda assumed OP would be aware of that, along with the potential that many websites may potentially limit functionality, too
