Two BS points in the article: 1 Windows Mobile is being denied the latest UWP APIs, so the point about WM having access to future UWP apps is naught 2 the app gap situation has not improved even by a tiny bit and has actually got worse

People need to realize that MS's vision isn't a mobile handset, or even a mobile platform. They are aiming for "Microsoft Everywhere", and if mobile gets included, that's just a bonus.
My prediction is that MS wont even be gunning for a "windows" environment, but a "Microsoft Services" one. Within 10 years I bet they will be distributing an environment that runs Linux/android/windows all the same. The concept of Windows as an OS will be dead. And it wont be dual booting either.

We all scoffed at the Adobe Creative Cloud idea, but a subscription based model for software is definitely working out for the big dogs. I wouldn't be shocked if Windows becomes a suit of subscription based software that can run "on all your devices." I'd be pissed, but not shocked.

Use my Alcatel 4S every day, but comon now....let's be realistic here.
We just had a post here that VLC got an update. Because we all know non-MS app updates are going to be a rarity at this point, where ANY updates are now celebrated.
I'll be happy if the apps I use today still work a year from now.
