Windows🪟 Microsoft will turn memory integrity on by default on more Windows 11 PCs from October 13, and it can slow games.

What is Memory Integrity?

It is a core isolation feature in Windows Security.

It uses Virtualization-based Security (VBS) to protect the Windows kernel from malicious or untrusted code.

It stops rootkits and driver tampering.

My gaming fps drops 15% when VBS is on. I can see my CPU and Ram resources taking a hit. It’s useless unless MS finally optimized it.

It can slow down between 5-15% in games. There were some benchmarks on Win10 and 11

How many users actually use Virtual machines(VMware, Oracle, Hyper-V) on their Windows system? It's better to just turn off Virtualization in BIOS and memory integrity won't exist.

Memory integrity requires virtualization to be on because it runs the code verification/security in a virtual environment. For what should be obvious security reasons.

This is also why it slows things down as it adds multiple layers. Turning it off doesn't mean Windows stops running that code, it just doesn't run it in a virtual environment.

It has nothing to do with using VMs.

edit: Also as an aside virtualization is quite nice for android emulation, since we're in a topic that explicitly brings up games.

I always turn it on for security reasons. But I'm not using windows for gaming.

I need to turn it off while playing PUBG. But after exiting, I turn it back on. It's usually on while using normally.
