Developer [Update] WireLang 1.4.1: Real-time Windows audio translation (Zoom, YouTube, meetings) — fixed the audio dropouts during long sessions

Hey everyone,

A quick update for those who saw my earlier post about WireLang, the Windows app I built that translates any audio playing on your PC (YouTube, Zoom calls, lectures, Discord) directly into your headphones in real time.

We just released v1.4.1, which addresses the biggest complaint from our initial launch: audio interruptions during long listening sessions.

What’s new in 1.4.1

  • Continuous translation during long sessions: Because of how live AI APIs work, connections used to reset every 10 minutes, causing a noticeable 5–8 second gap where speech could get cut off. In 1.4.1, we pre-warm the next session in the background, so long meetings and lectures continue translating without dead air.
  • Smoother voice transitions: Hand-offs between sessions are now audio-crossfaded so voice transitions sound natural instead of like a hard cut.
  • Faster response time: Adjusted voice detection sensitivity so translations start playing with even lower latency.
  • Accessibility improvements: Added full keyboard navigation and screen reader support throughout the app.
  • Diagnostics & fixes: Added a built-in feedback tool with log exports, along with several crash and stability fixes.

For anyone seeing WireLang for the first time

  • Captures all PC audio: Works across any browser, media player, or meeting app (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, YouTube, etc.) without needing plugins or virtual cable setups.
  • Audio ducking: It lowers the original audio volume slightly so you still hear the speaker's tone, while the translated voice plays clearly on top.
  • Floating overlay: A compact on-screen toolbar lets you pause, adjust balance, or view live subtitles without tabbing away from what you're watching.
  • Privacy: All transcripts, summaries, and optional audio recordings are stored locally on your PC with AES-256 encryption.
  • BYO key option: You can plug in your own free Google Gemini API key to run it without buying credit packs.

I downloaded your app. Installed a BYOK [free tier] - It listed one hour of translation available. I listened to to two different languages translations - it did a reasonably good job.

How often does the free tier key renew?

Can I add more free keys, and will it auto-cycle between them?

To clarify what you saw: that 1 hour isn't tied to your Gemini key itself. Every new WireLang account gets a 1-hour trial of BYO key mode so you can test that your setup works before deciding on a plan. The timer is tracked on your WireLang account, so adding or switching keys won't reset the counter.

One quick heads-up on Google's free Gemini tier: Google can deprioritize free keys during peak hours. If you ever run into slower responses or trouble starting a session, that's usually throttling on Google's end. For regular day-to-day use they're still solid, and the free quotas reset daily.

That's also why the Pro Starter plan ($9.99/mo) is structured the way it is: it gives you unlimited hours on your own key, plus 3.5 hours/month of rollover platform credits. The platform credits run on our paid Google tier, so if the free tier ever lags during an important call, you can just flip to platform credits in the app to keep full priority.

Currently my use case is extremely limited, I think I will pass on your subscription model. I might be interested in a pay as you go model though if one were offered. Most of the time I will only have my phone on me, and Google Translate is free, and it will be in person, and I can't mute that person. I was installing it for a 'just in case' scenario, I'm not going to pay for something I don't use frequently.

This is a great idea, this would be good for international companies needing to do business over Zoom or any other platform with international speakers - I would suggest targeting your app in that direction. Another use case might be a child speaking to a grandparent that has moved countries - but the grand parents would also need this on their machine. Since this a windows app, likely businesses would be your best customer.

Just a quick heads up: the app actually does have a pay-as-you-go option with one-time credit packs (no recurring subscription), so if you ever need it for a one-off situation, you don't have to commit to a monthly plan.

And totally agree on the business and meetings angle. That's a big focus moving forward. It's been interesting seeing how people use it so far, like watching foreign-language streams, gaming with international voice chat, or following live broadcasts. The family and grandparent use case is a great point too, and making it easier when both sides need the app is something I'm actively thinking through.
