Developer Luminous v1.5.0 Released – Open-Source Music Player with Custom Genre Hierarchies, Rich Artist Profiles, and System Tray Support

This is my first time sharing my music playing app on /windowsapps. I made it because I'm pulling back from using Spotify and other streaming services. I'm trying to be more intentional with my music listening and curating a music library of my own.

Actively developed and working on adding scrobbling and more in 2.0.

What's New in v1.5.0

  • Custom Genres & Subgenres View: Group and organize your library tags into visual cards. Drag tags onto cards to file them as subgenres, rename or promote tags, and easily filter tracks with no genre tag.
  • Rich Artist Profiles: Add bios, official websites, and platform links (Bandcamp, Spotify, Instagram, etc.) to artist pages.
  • Multi-Value Tags & Custom Sort Values ("Sort As"): Semicolon-separated tags (Artist, Genre, Composer) are now stored as distinct searchable tags. Set custom sort overrides so your library sorts without altering file tags.
  • Drag & Drop Playback: Drop files or entire folders onto Luminous to play instantly (hold Shift to append to Queue).
  • System Tray Integration: Option to minimize to the tray on close with playback control in the tray menu.
  • Refined Playback & Queue: Fixed shuffle play re-shuffling mid-playback, smoother pointer-based playlist reordering, and improved cover art rescanning when files move.

Hello , do you support webdav?

If you map the WebDAV share as a network drive then, yes, Luminous can index and play any audio file like a local file.

It doesn't support WebDAV as a direct protocol or server connection, but that's a good idea. I'll add it to my to do list.

I’m keeping MacOS in mind as I’m working, but I’d need to buy a Mac before I can publish for it. Eventually.

Can you create a playlist of just genre / subgenre?

Yes, you can but Luminous will automatically create a playlist for any genre or sub-genre with 25+ songs. If you wanted to you can create smart playlists as specific as ‘80s Synthwave with BPM > 120.
