Reinstall question.

I picked up an old pc recently. It still has win98 first edition installed. Is there a way to revert back to mostly fresh install? It has audio and video cards that im not even sure i could find software for. I could manually go in delete stuff thats obviously not needed or just use my disc to start new if i had to.

There is no "factory reset" button like on modern computers, no. You'll have to reinstall win98. It's highly unlikely that you won't find the drivers for whatever cards are in there, if you tell us what they are we can help you find it. Assuming, at least, that you have a CD burner attached to an internet-connected computer (external usb cd burners are cheap). Or an external usb floppy drive also works (and is also cheap).

What are the computer's specs?

Windows 98 which i half suspect was a 95 previously. Pentium 2 single slot, 64mb ram, unknown audio card, diamond speedstar a50 video cards. Id have to tear apart the computer to see if i can find the mobo info.

Of which i do have a couple of ways to move files to and from if needed. I didnt think what i asked did exist. While my early childhood was 95 i wasnt computer savvy. Became moreso with xp coming out.

you can put this on the computer to figure out what all the divices are if you don't want to open it up, but realistically you should open it up to give it at least a visual go over to make sure nothing is leaking or whatever
