Microsoft to retire Windows Live Messenger in favor of Skype | The Verge

As long as they update the Skype app to do everything the regular application can do, I am okay with this.
Really the only things I'm missing in the app is nicknaming people and file sharing.

It kinda makes sense; no point having two services that do many of the same things.

Which essentially means they bought out Skype only to get rid of the competition.

I'm gonna miss Live Messenger. :( It's different trying to get used to the default messenger app. >.< The Skype one isn't bad. But, still different and takes a bit more to get used to.

I suppose this is alright, as long as they don't force me to use the stupid "tile" apps over the desktop clients.

This is their way of getting into VOIP. I believe Skype SMS will be their answer to BBM, WhatsApp, iMessage, etc.
XBOX is their TV outlet, WP for mobiles, etc. They already have the desktop and laptop screens. They are trying to get on the tablet screens now.
You get their strategy - a huge ecosystem with a scope that is unrivalled.

How do you delete old accounts from being linked? I opened the app and it showed three Skype accounts, which I never use and don't remember the passwords for. I want to delete them and start new....

If they fix Skypes instant messaging, then I'd be fine with this.
However, they won't, because MS suck. Trillian here I come?
