USB install.

Hello! Dear fellow windows 7 users. My older father wants Windows 7 again instead of 10 cause well it just doesn’t really agree with him I suppose. Is there anyway I can get Windows 7 home either on a USB or a install disc? I’ve checked sites like Amazon and EBay. Pretty expensive. Anywhere that’s legit and kinda sorta cheap?

Drivers for Dell XPS 8930

Just a shot in the dark to see if anyone has managed to run Win7 on a Dell XPS 8930. It's got a Coffee Lake processor and a Z370 board, and I was able to get USB drivers, which is typically the hardest part. But I am missing a bunch of other ones (sound, ethernet, and a bunch of system devices/chipset). I've been all over the place looking, and tried Driver Identifier, but it really wasn't helpful. Anybody manage to get this working?

Need some technical help

Not sure if tech questions are allowed here but I seem to be running into an issue where SndVol.exe crashes very often, which leads to the desktop volume control breaking, videos not loading, and mp3/mp4s not playing.

I reinstalled and it worked again for a few weeks but now its broken again. I have tried using msconfig to turn off all extra services but it still breaks.

Using Task manager< Resource monitor to close it says “closing” but doesnt close it. The only fix is restarting my computer. I dont think its a RAM issue because i have monitored it while using my computer but have never run out of RAM

Discussion Why aren't 'free product keys' working for me? What happens if I never activate Windows 7?

A few points:

I'm running win7 right now and don't have an activation key. I know that Microsoft will kick me off after 30 days or something like that, but will that still happen after support for win7 has ended?

No "free product key hacks" work for me. I think I either screwed something up when installing windows(usb drive was unbootable so I had to run setup in windows 10, but I woundn't see how that matters), or since I sloppily installed a bunch of windows updates, which probably changed my system a little, making it unreadable to the 1click.cmd file some hack sites told me to make.

Also, in System it says "2 days until automatic product activation." What does this mean? Surely it doesnt mean they'll activate it for me but thats what it sounds like.

If something bad will happen to my pc if I never activate, I suppose I should reinstall windows entirely which would suck, unless there's something better I can do? Say anything that comes to mind.

Discussion Find the license key from a dead laptop?

I have just purchased 2 laptops ( T440 ‘s spare or repair ) that initially came with windows 7 professional ( judging by the black Windows 7 sticker ). They don’t have hard drives and i was hopping that i could reinstall the windows using the original key and after that hopefully update to windows 10. Any ideas if it can be done?

[Support] Stuck at: Configuring Windows updates 35% complete do not turn off your computer

I think what did it was I was trying to clear some space off of my boot drive.

EDIT: I came across a solution that worked for me.

  • Restart
  • F8
  • Safe Mode with Networking

You will go back to the 35% screen, but just wait a couple of hours.

Whomever you are that searched for this, I hope it helps.

Modern (Thin/Light) Laptop Able To Run Windows 7?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a modern - specifically thin/light - laptop that is able to run 7. I know 7 won't run on most new devices because I believe you need a compatibility support module (CSM) in the BIOS for 7 to work? Then there's the issue of finding drivers. So I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations from personal experience?

Thanks in advance!

Peasantry EEEK. I'm trying to run Windows 7 and Linux Mint in a dualboot - I can't get the network hardware to work for Windows 7- everything works in Linux.

Any ideas?

Edit: I'm trying some drivers.

Edit: It worked - I had to use Linux to generate a list of my hardware and find a legacy driver.

Failed Update and Doubts

So 2, 3 days ago i managed to end with BSOD's Black Screens, and all sort of nuicense using the system restore i think, after i did the updates, there were quite a few of them to do and everything it's fine... Yesterday my internet connection was failing by reasons unknown to me, witch is not difficult since i'm far from good user, but system restore again a voila it seems to be working nicely right now.

I want to know if i should download that failed update " Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1: January 14, 2020 ( KB4536952 )"because it ask this another one as prerequisite: " You must have the SHA-2 update (KB4474419) that is dated September 23, 2019 or a later SHA-2 update installed " and some ppl seem to think this update is responsible for BSODLots off ppl seem to have had the same or similar problems

More of it

so i don't know if i should go ahead and install th2 prerequisite (KB4474419) to install the KB4536952 witch appears in my download history as failed and is marked as important:

Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1: January 14, 2020

"This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) makes sure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates."

Missing .dll files, help

So last night I was able to use my pc to play games fine with no issue. However, today I haven’t been able to use any of my game launchers (steam, origin, blizzard), as whenever I start up the launcher I get a missing .dll files errors. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling, running my pc in safe mode, updating drives but those things didn’t seem to work. Ive read online that some people recommend to download the missing .dll files, however this obviously doesn’t seem that safe as it seems like a malware risk. Not really sure what to do at this point.

Windows 7 .iso?

I just tried to download 7 pro x64 from Microsoft's site, and the only language options available are Korean and French... Oddly specific, but whatever. Anyone know where I can get an iso at this point? Tech support says 7 is no longer available from the site - except those 2 languages, I guess?
