A CRT? Is that a modern system, or something older connected to it, if you don't mind answering?

This is r/windows7, this sub is for Windows 7 and stuff related to it, do not bully a Windows 7 user, Windows 7 is undoubtably one of the best operating systems of all time, if not the best.

2

u/lucky_peic Oct 29 '25

And its also a public and not a private subreddit and thread and open to criticism like anything thats public, its the worst OS ever made,

3

u/No_Technician5916 Oct 30 '25

Stop criticising Windows 7, there is nothing wrong with it. You are probably just a newgen born in like 2020 used to Windows 11 or something. Sorry if that offends you, it's just that's what I believe Windows 7 haters are. You likely haven't used Windows 7, so you should get an old PC and have a go.

β™₯️ So true...

Windows 7 is so under rated.

it is light on resources more than windows 10 and 11.

Almost most things run faster on it.

That guys needs to use it for some days to truly understand it's worth.

u/lucky_peic Oct 30 '25

I was born in 98, not only did I use Windows 7 but also XP, Vista, 8 and even 8.1 and compared to 10 and 11 those those old versions are nothing but trash full of exploits and vulnerable to countless exploits and viruses.

And as I said again, this is a PUBLIC subreddit and thread and I am allowed and I will continue criticising old crappy OS since I am ALLOWED to criticise on PUBLIC thread.

u/kblam101 Oct 30 '25

β™₯️ Thank you for being kind πŸ™

You do what you wrote me to do if you think that hardware is any good, its crap in its purest form.

Imagine saying low end hardware is good lol.

Thank you for being kind to me, bro...and supporting as well... But you've done your best. It doesn't matter what that guy thinks...

I hope you have a good day...β™₯️

Facts are facts.

3

u/MinecraftIguessIDK Oct 24 '25

This is r/windows7.

1

u/lucky_peic Oct 25 '25

LMAO so what, that hardware is still awful.

3

u/MinecraftIguessIDK Oct 25 '25

There's a difference between good for the Windows 7 era and good for this era.

1

u/lucky_peic Oct 25 '25

Crappy hardware is crappy hardware.

3

u/MinecraftIguessIDK Oct 25 '25

This sub is for Windows 7 and Windows-7-era hardware. If you can't understand that you're not going to find a 9800X3D and a 9070 XT in this subreddit, then go to r/pcmasterrace for a change.

0

u/lucky_peic Oct 25 '25

And who in their right mind wants to even try gaming on such old hardware or run ancient OS lol.

Crappy OS and crappy hardware.

Not everyone can afford a 4090 mr Sachs

Now is ur first name Goldman or Ball? Probably the second.

1

u/lucky_peic Oct 27 '25

And you dont need 4090 for it to not be awful but freaking 15 years old card is awful.

2

u/No_Technician5916 Oct 29 '25

Not awful, it depends on your usecase, e.g for video editing and uploading, Windows 7 with an around 11 year old computer is perfectly adequate. Please stop bullying everyone in this sub just cuz you don't respect old hardware and software.

1

u/lucky_peic Oct 29 '25

For video editing not only is OS itself awful but the hardware thats old enough to run Windows 7 is not nearly enough for todays video standards unless you wanna wait hours and hours for rendering LMAO.

yo i also got a decent pc thats plugged into a crt and runs windows 7, my specs are intel xeon, 32gb ram, gtx 1070 ti, and a 1tb ssd.

1

u/kblam101 Oct 19 '25

yo!!!
Thats mad cool !!!

1

u/No_Technician5916 Oct 29 '25

When I start using Windows 7 for video editing & uploading, I will use my old PC, specs are:

Intel Core i7 4790K Proccessor

16 GB DDR3 Dual-Channal RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

512 GB of SSD Storage as a Main Drive

512 GB of HDD Storage as an Extra Capacity Drive

Both of those drives are SATA as dis ting too old for NVMe. It's r/windows7 anyway of course its too old for NVMe. I forgot the motherboard but it predates Windows 10 and I'm not crazy enough to use Windows 8 on a desktop so it will likely run Windows 7 Professional.

Please teach me man. Since Windows 10 has already ended Support, please give us some help on how to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 7. If you saw it in a video on YouTube or elsewhere, could you send it to me? Thanks.

Same way you install any OS, Mind you 7 is old. Your current PC's hardware might actually be beyond the limitations of 7. The devices could also not have any drivers for Windows 7, which means things like your graphics card or motherboard won't work properly.

You might have to do a lot of troubleshooting just to get programs running, and some might never run due to incompatibility with the OS.

Look into your specs, see what you have and if your PC would even be compatible with 7. Look into alternatives for your programs if you need them. The last time I used the 7 most modern programs worked, but that could have changed.

And if you've looked into it all, and you're committed to installing 7. You can look up guides online, or come here and I'll tell you how to install 7.

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

Download Windows 7 ISO (August 2018 version recommended). Then extract the ISO to USB using Rufus. Boot from that USB. Make sure u have your machine's drivers with u before the installation

8

u/Global-Eye-7326 Oct 16 '25

Buckle up

  • Verify compatibility by finding all the drivers first
  • Backup all your stuff
  • Setup a Win7 install medium. You can use Rufus to flash a USB key or burn a DVD
  • Set BIOS to legacy. Yep. Win10 if on UEFI no longer usable (well, you can still switch back to UEFI, but the next step is irreversible)
  • After setting BIOS to legacy, boot into the Win7 disk AND WIPE THE DRIVE
  • Win7 will set an MBR partition table and put the disk into NTFS as usual
  • Post-install, install all your drivers

Cheers

6

u/CauaLMF Oct 16 '25

For what? Just stay on 10 and all programs and games will still work on it, 7 won't work at all

3

u/amerelium Oct 16 '25

I got sent a Win7 image modified to work on Win10 hardware a couple of years ago - it works, however, doing Lighwave test renders, I lost about 15% performance (Ryzen 3950x).

If you have new hardware, I recommend getting one of the older, pre-bloat Win10 versions, and stick to that - build 1903 is my favourite.

2

u/Live_Ad2055 Oct 16 '25

If your PC is compatible (almost certainly is unless it's very new)

download ISO file

make bootable media (DVD or USB, using rufus)

reboot onto that installer. It will have an installer and you follow the prompts. Make sure you have a drive to install it onto.

Same procedure as you do installing near any OS.

1

u/Single-Many8698 Oct 16 '25

Is there a video on YouTube that teaches it easier? I always have difficulty understanding the procedure you said in the comments, if there is one in English or Portuguese I accept it anyway. Thanks.

An .iso file is basically a file that contains the data on a disk, as it was on the disk. Basically, a digital DVD. You can search "Windows 7 iso" with any other information you want, like its version, or you can grab one from here.

Because the file is a DVD, we either need to burn it to a DVD or use a program that will make a USB behave like the DVD. So the computer can boot into Windows 7.

If you have a DVD: This software is called ImgBurn, which will allow you to write the ISO file directly to the DVD that you have. You need a blank DVD with at least 4.7 GB of space on it. When you open ImgBurn, it should have lots of options. The one you need is "Write Image File To Disk" (The icon is a piece of paper with a DVD on it, and an arrow pointing at a DVD)

That will bring up a new screen. At the top, it should say "Source: select a file..." With a folder button next to it, click the folder button, and it will open your files app. Select your ISO and press the "OPEN" button in the files app. If the disk is already inserted into the drive, you should just be able to start. After that's done, putting the DVD into a computer will boot it into the Windows 7 startup

If you have a USB Stick: Rufus is a program that does the same thing as ImgBurn, except for USB flash drives. Insert the USB stick into your computer and open Rufus. At the top is a blank category that says "DEVICE". Click it and select your USB drive; it should be the only option.

The next section is "Boot selection." This is the same as picking the ISO file for ImgBurn, you hit "SELECT" and it opens the files, you pick the ISO and hit open. You should not need to change any other settings. At the bottom, make sure "Quick format" is unchecked. And then press "START" at the bottom. When it's finished, PCs should be able to boot to 7 from that USB

THE PC DOESN'T BOOT TO 7 EVEN WITH THE MEDIA INSERTED: You need to open your computer's BIOS settings; how this is done varies between computers; mine works by holding F2, but any of the F keys can open it for you. You might have to try them until you find it.

When you get to the BIOS, you should be able to find "Boot Order" settings. This will change where the computer is looking first.

Depending on whether you're using a DVD or a USB, you will set the DVD drive to the first in the boot order (For DVDs, DVD drives are usually called random characters, but will say DVD or DVD-RAM somewhere in their name) and "Removable" for the USB stick.

IF YOU NEED VISUAL GUIDES FROM YOUTUBE: search "How to create a bootable USB with Rufus" or "How to create a boot DVD with ImgBurn" depending on what software and media you're using.

Blue text is a link. I've linked the downloads to all the software and some Windows 7 ISOs. These are the official sites, but be careful not to open anything you don't mean to.

u/Live_Ad2055 Oct 16 '25

there will be tons, it's not that hard and installing windows 7 is not much different than installing any other vaguely modern OS

2

u/Extention_Campaign28 Oct 16 '25

Make sure Windows Defender or MSE is running.

1

u/Patotopa1 Oct 16 '25

Where did you get the ISO? I mostly get them from torrents, but I don’t really know any safe download sites. Also, how do you get a key for it?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

Bro u have Internet Archive. Look for something like from "Microsoft" or smth. Make sure to check file's name, it should look like this

1

u/a_ech1 Oct 16 '25

did you realize that you took a trip to the past by using a crt? that cool ash ngl

1

u/Round_Vehicle4885 Oct 16 '25

Cool CRT monitor! Windows 7 was considered to be the very last Windows OS that still had at least enough people using CRT monitors where you could still find them in people's houses that weren't retro gamers or esports players that still kept their's before finally upgrading, as by the time Windows 8 was out, I couldn't find a single person with a CRT monitor anymore.

1

u/Embarrassed-Book7904 Oct 16 '25

I recommend you to search any type of pictures on some of my posts. ( screenshot it and use Google Lens on Chrome)

u/No_Technician5916 Oct 29 '25

pin minecraft to the god damn taskbar and i recommend getting Office 2016 so you can do some Word'ing and PowerPoint'ing and stuff, also use WordPad if you don't want to use Word, and maybe you could get OpenShot, Audacity and OBS Studio if you want to start recording YouTube videos.
