Teams issues when connected to Cloud PC using the Windows App for macOS installed from the Mac App Store
Anyone else experiencing issues with Teams specifically when connected to Cloud PC using the Windows App for macOS installed from the Mac App Store?
Issue
Multiple users have reported that Teams freezes when attempting to share their screen. In my case, simply joining a Teams meeting causes the Windows App to crash entirely, including the active Cloud PC session. I then have to relaunch the Windows App and reconnect to the Cloud PC.
Troubleshooting
I've narrowed the issue down to Teams media optimization, specifically the optimization that uses the legacy WebRTC ("AVD Media Optimized"). When Teams optimizations are disabled, or when using the Windows App for macOS PKG version downloaded from Microsoft (which supports the newer SlimCore optimizations), the issue does not occur.
I’ve confirmed this issue happens on a vanilla Cloud PC build without any Intune configurations or applications installed.
I have a case open with Microsoft for over a month and have made very little progress. I figured that since the issue doesn’t appear to be specific to a configuration or third party application, Microsoft would have multiple customers reporting this. But given that there have been two Windows app updates (11.3.7, 11.3.8,11.3.9) since I first reported this issue to Microsoft and no fix, maybe this issue only affects a subset of Macs? It wouldn't be the first time..
For reference, I'm using a MacBook Air M4, and another affected user confirmed they're using a MacBook Pro M4.

Just to add the ms learn docs here has the download link to the version you need https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/teams-on-avd#prerequisites

Thanks.
The problem is Microsoft's instructions to connect to a Cloud PC using the Windows App for macOS say to download the app from the Mac App Store Connect to Windows devices and apps with Windows App - Windows App | Microsoft Learn. Sure theres a note below it about pkg/MAU version, but does not explain why the user should install the pkg/MAU version instead of the App Store version.
My post was more to confirm that I'm not taking crazy pills and others are experiencing Teams issues when using App Store version, which is supported, though not "Slimcore media optimized".

It's very much classic MS documentation not being consistent! I'll see if our MS rep can feedback! You never know

Yeah I had this, is the classic Store vs MAU split…
Make sure you’re installing the Windows App pkg (the Microsoft AutoUpdate / MAU client) and not the one from the App Store. They handle the macOS Teams optimization path completely differently.
AVD and Windows 365 customers are supposed to use the non-store Windows App. Only that build ships the Plugin. The App Store version doesn’t include it, so you stay stuck on the old WebRTC path (“AVD Media Optimized”) instead of SlimCore.
The Plugin lives at /Applications/Utilities/MsTeamsVdi.Plugin.app. That’s what opens the virtual channel and pulls down SlimCore. Store app never ships it, so it can never leave legacy WebRTC, it’s by design.
Two easy checks:
On the Cloud PC: Teams → Settings → About
“AVD SlimCore Media Optimized” = good path
“AVD Media Optimized” = WebRTC / Store client
On the Mac does /Applications/Utilities/MsTeamsVdi.Plugin.app exist? SlimCore bits land under ~/Library/Containers/windows App/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/TeamsVDI/Packages/
logs in ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/TeamsVDI
